I'm planning on selling a few items via the trading forums on these boards - a few people have mentioned using Bank Transfers rather than PayPal. If you're the seller what info do you give to facilitate this? It seems something of a potential security breach to give account details over an unsecured system especially if passed with your name and address. Just wondered what the normal procedures are as I don't have a clue!

I hate Paypal with a passion as it is an unregulated financial body but the vast majority of people seem comfortable with this [judging by their profits].

When using a bank transfer, your sort code, account number, name and bank name should be enough...

Name, sort code and account number should be all that is needed.

No less secure than a cheque, its all written on them too!

yep, name, sort code, account number and what bank it is, they can pay in any branch, as said above, its no less secure than cheque, it has the same info on it..lol

if they say need anything else such as your debit/credit cards 16 digit (or with switch possibly longer) number or pin number or security number then dont go any further with the deal...

Cheers for the reassurance guys. Are bank transfers normally instant? Or is notification of the transfer instant? Just thinking of at what point do you dispatch goods?

Between the same banks it can be instant, hsbc to hsbc etc. But between two different banks it takes 4 days like a cheque.

90% of transactions did here were over the counter, the most convenient and quick method i found. Never had any problems
