I ordered my tin box set from CD Wow and got hit by Customs, around £10.00, I had to send this back a few times and each replacement set I received (5 in total) I got hit by customs on each one. They ship from Japan I think so even if Region 2 this will get picked up!

Sorry meant to add, at that price I would take a gamble and order it, even if you do get hit it will be around £30.00 for the set.

(as the charge is worked out on the value of the discs I paid around £40 at the time so I was cherged around £10 fee, yours would be less as discs are only £24)

CDWow have been customs friendly for a few months now. They ship items over £18 to somewhere in Europe and then post your item to you so you wont get charged.

That is really crafty and good for us! Suppose they may have started losing business to Play etc!

Even without DTS its still a great price compared to the £50 I paid for the tin version in Tesco when it was first released.

I missed this too. Is it mostly action or drama (or both?)? Is sentimentalised American rubbish (I assume it isn't, but just checking!)? What is it similar to?

You dont have to worry about customs with CDWow though as anything over £18 gets shipped to Europe first then onto you.

CDWow have been customs friendly for a few months now.

Really? How come my last two imports worth over 18 quid from CDWow have been given Customs charges? Before anyone runs away with the idea that I'm anti- CDWow, I'm not (I continue to use them regularly), and the same thing has happened with other companies I use as well.

I think you'll find it depends to some extent on the local storting office - mine seems peculiarly vindictive. Before I moved to a different part of the country last year I wasn't particularly bothered with charges; since then practically everything over 18 quid has been stopped and a duty levied (and don't you just love it when Royal Mail charges an extra couple of quid on top of the duty for the priviledge of opening and repackaging the disc - like who asked them to open the parcel in the first place?).

As regards Band of Brothers itself, in spite of the enthusiastic response of some posters, it's not a series for everyone. First, if you didn't like the gore in Saving Private Ryan, you're likely to be deterred by this series. The violence is very realistic. Second, after a while the series gets bogged down in its twin themes of 'war is Hell' and 'what happens to individuals when put under pressure'. There's very little light and shade. Of course you could argue that that is what war is like, but I personally think the same message could have been conveyed in a much shorter time and with much greater impact. Watching the series on the TV, I found my interest waning after about the third episode (though I stuck it through to the end).

When I said they had been customs friendly for awhile now, I said that because alot of people had reported that orders over £18 had first been sent to somewhere in Europe and then mailed on and I thought they were doing this for all orders, maybe they have had to stop doing this.

load of cobblers . BOB is the best mini series of all time, as reviews on amazon.co.uk and .com indicate also:

Oh dear - another person who doesn't read what's written before shooting off a reply. 'Someone not 100 per cent in favour of my favourite programme [until the next one comes along] - must hurl insults'.

I said that BOB will not be to everyone's taste, not that it is a bad series. Likewise, I said that it was a personal reaction that I thought the thematic structure got tedious. I did not say that this was the definitive verdict.

As for the reviews of amazon counting for anything - yeh, right. And as for it being the best series of all time, I strongly suggest you look watch the following a few more series (e.g. Jewel in the Crown, Brideshead Revisited, I, Claudius, Roots, The Forsythe Saga [the original version]) before making sweeping statements.
