I've just collected my new Denon AVR-3801 and whilst looking at the back noticed that the speaker terminals don't look like they will take banana plugs - is this right?

The manual says I should insert the bare wire into the terminal, but I thought the 3801 would take bananas.

Does it not have little removeable plastic or rubber 'bungs' in each of the red or black binding posts?

Yep, the 3801 does take bananas, just remove the bungs with a small screwdriver and Hey Presto! instant banana compatability!

It also makes it a lot easier to biwire, rather than trying to stuff barewire into the binding post.

    cheers

Thanks for that - didn't want to attack the binding posts with a screwdriver without checking here first!

Bananas, isn't it? Because of some Euro-law designed to protect continental Europeans who don't know any better, from sticking their Banana Plugs into their (similarly-sized, round pin) mains sockets, and killing themselves, we (as members of the EEC) have to do without Banana plugs - despite the fact that our mains outlets have rectangular pins and a shuttering device. Hence the (removable) plastic bungs.......
