I am trying to wire up my amp and speakers and have bought some 4mm banana plugs (semi-nice ones) but although they fit nicely into my Wharfedale speaker terminals, they will not fit into my 3805. I don't want to push too hard but its as if they are just a tiny bit too big.

Its the first time I've used banana connectors so please excuse my ignorance but are there different sizes and if so, what size do I need for the amp side?

Ahhh, I think I have found the answer.....I can't check it now but apparently there are little caps inside the tops of the speaker terminals that prevents you putting the banana plugs in. With difficulty, they should pop out....

That'll keep me busy tonight..... :suicide:

Just use a small screw. Screw in a few turns and pull out. Should take you no more than about 2 minutes to do all of them :D

I went through the same process. I was scared to death I'd break something, but you can prise them out with a small screwdriver.

Aaargh. I bought a 2085 at the weekend and took the banana plugs off my speaker cable because I assumed that I just had to do it the awkward way.

    Typical

I did the same. Conenctors went back on last night and a cunning extraction was done on the small protective 'O' rings was complete. Fitted a treat

I was told by Audio T where I purchased my Denon AVR-3802, the reason for the speaker terminals having this cap type obstruction was a European safety thing as the manufacturers think we are stupid enough to perhaps try putting banana plugs into a mains socket. By not readily accepting them until you modify the speaker terminals it gets round this issue.

Crazy when you think about it if indeed this is the reason?

It because the Europeans use those stupid 2 pin plugs which go live without any need for an earth connection. So kids were plugging banana plugs directly into the plug socket making it live. I believe the EU originally tried to ban banana plugs - thankfully they failed!
