Bad picture on TV with Mac mini using several connections

Bought I Mac mini yesterday. Told the shop my TV had no dvi connection which comes free with Mac mini they said dont worry hdmi to hdmi is easier and better so went down that route. Hooked it all up and the picture quality is awful. Shop said try VGA connection instead, my TV has VGA so I got the apple adaptor and tried it. Picture is even worse. Ive tried several different quality cables, different makes of TVs and still the picture quality is poor. Am I doing anything wrong or is it a faulty Mac mini? Any help is much appreciated

Thanks for the reply curly but still no joy. Apple reckon its a faulty graphics card so going to take it back and get it exchanged.
