has been postponed indefinitely, they're having problems with the 1080p; i thought so......i've just found out on `cnet` google

this means the pedestal 56'' has been postponed too; same technology...so now you know why all these new ones have been delayed!

how long for ?.........no idea...sod it!

    i quote fron USA :-

``I had been waiting anxiously for the arrival of the
Samsung Hlr6768w DLP.To my surprise when I called Samsung 800 number today.I was told by customer service that this was one of the models that was indefinitely postponed because they had a problem with the 1080p/1080i they wanted to include on the TV.I called again later today and another customer service agent told me the same thing.Damn!!!!!``

    I'm well fed up now!

Actually I have a R65 :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: , I never recomend the RD50. I only recomend the samsung 50'
Think about it like this. A new set probably will be out in 6 months or so, you will then have to wait 4 months for the faults to be fully noted. You have said that you will wait for the price to drop which normally takes 6 months. So really your looking to buy a DLP set in mid 2006.

If I was you I would take a load of dvds to a AV shop and demo away the samsung. If you like it buy it and enjoy it.

    Love the posts Malso :smashin:

GOOD NEWS. :D :D :D I've just been onto a yankee forum and it hasn't been postponed, just delayed till june time; in other words, it has a fault and doesn't work correctly but should be ok in a few weeks time..

this applies to all gen 4 sammy dlps.....this is bound to happen with new technology, they've just promised a too early release date; but in reality, it's still in the R&D department getting sorted out..

it must work because it did at the Las Vegas show, all of this reminds me of many u.k engineering companies, the management promise delivery before the component is ready to go into manufacture....this is bad news, because they usually come back later with faults, i.e R&D rush to get the bloody thing out of the door and into manufacture...

typical management, all they think about is profits at the expense of R&D, so what will happen with this Samsung HLR6768W, well i expect you'll need to wait 6 months after it's been released before you purchase; because i sense it'll be released too early and have faults later on....but i could be paranoid here, but i've seen this scenario before.... :lesson: ;)

this new tv according to the american forum wont be much better than the sp50, because your eyes will hardly notice the increase in resolution..and if it's out in june time, they say its not worth buying until november; because it'll take till then before you see a big price discount, yes i thought so

BUT THIS Samsung HLR5067W is also coming out soon on Dealtime, they will probably also have the 56'' version too, but the 67'' is probably way too big for Joe Average, only nutters like Razor would be interested :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

now this DLP is very attractive and a good second choice to the pedestal 56'' version, it has a nice stand too! :smashin:

2' in screen size isnt enough to make me upgrade unless the pic was significantly better. I'm going to hold out for a 75' or preferably a 82' rear pro :D

Thanks for seprating me from the average joe section. :smashin:

these new ones will have a better picture, regardless of what the Americans' have said, but an 82'' will be way too big for me; 56 is about maximum for only 10 ft away :D

have you any idea how much an 82'' dlp will cost haha ?

can you get one over here? i couldn't see any (mitsubishi)

which is about 8000 quid or maybe 7000 after 6 months, but my guess is its too big and expensive for us lot, if it does come over here you wont see it on Dealtime, only at specialist/exclusive stockists; which means the price will stay up.......... :thumbsdow

your best bet for such a huge screen size is a front projector :D

    I would spend £8,000-00 for a 82' screen, consider this a 60' odd, good plasma costs £12,000+ :)

82' screen is a monster. I would definately be grining from ear to ear for a long, long time..... :D

I've just done a quick search on the web and we wont be getting this increase of 1080p over here..not for years yet, its no good just for dvd; because 90 percent of the time i will be viewing freeview only as the regular tv viewing and its not at 1080p

I QUOTE`` The experience in the US is that most large, widescreen digital TV sets are not actually sold for HDTV reception, but as part of home cinema systems, driven by the explosive growth of DVD's. The quality of even standard definition DVD's when enhanced through a high resolution system is such that many feel it could be the real driver for high definition viewing - which in itself would fuel the demand for over the air HDTV.

That could also apply in Europe should a similar take-up of DVD driven high resolution displays happen. However, the European digital terrestrial experience is that broadcasters opted to use the greater efficiencies in bandwidth offered by digital to deliver multi-channel services, not replicate existing services in high definition. With HDTV taking up four times the bandwidth of a standard definition channel, that is not likely to change, so the prospects for HDTV over DTT are minimal in Europe. Satellite, with its greater bandwidth, remains the only option for HDTV in Europe - since even new build cable systems seem unwilling to contemplate giving up channel space for HD.`` end quote

therefore regular HDTV over here is years away, i dont know what's happening on freeview but i'm sure its not as high as 1080p, so 1080p is only really suitable for advanced DVD HOME CINEMAS and no good for me, unless i start watching loads of DVD's instead.

so the sammy 56 pedestal is a waste of money Razor, as i said earlier, you'll not notice a better PQ because freeview doesn't transmit at this higher res...

Malso can i ask why you aren't interested in the current 50 inch model from Samsung? Why isnt it an option? I would like to know for myself as you obviously know something i don't as you seem very thorough in your research :smashin:

I think you should get the 50' smasung and enjoy DLP today, like i have said before predicting the market is an impossible thing. 720p will be good enough for a good few years to come and then some as 720p isnt even that readly availible now. These sets are based on technology that was a year out when these sets were designed and produced.

I have found a link which displays alot of US rear pro sets. If I post this you have to promise not to start a thread on each set listed. Do you promise? :D :D

    http://www.digitalvideoforless.com/hdtv_tv_television.htm

This link will probably send you over the edge with worry as to which set to wait for and if it has any faults. :rotfl:

    Malso,

I've been reading your posts since the first day I came here when deciding what to buy - I really think that this type of technology is not for you. I can't imagine the amount of time you're spending trying to figure out what's coming out next - why don't you just buy a normal direct view TV and forget about all this???

Digital panel technology will always be upgraded just like when you're buying a computer so there is no way you can ever get the best technology at the best price - FORGET IT MR. :hiya:

yea' yea' yea'.......sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

thanks for the link Razor, i will choose one of the sammy models..either the sp50, or one of the 3 new ones they're releasing, i dont like to spend all this money without being sure first; so i do loads of research...dare i say, only a fool wouldn't..

i consider the new 1080p a waste of money, no need for it yet; unless of course its not too expensive, i also like either this one below or the 50'' version, so i have maybe 4 to choose from....i will purchase at xmas time, until then; i'll keep looking around.

there's nothing wrong with the sp50, it just might not be as good as these next 3.

but this samsung hlp5674w shown above would look best at home, it has a slim sleek design with a thin border around the screen, it would look ultra cool, it is also a 4th generation dlp :D :D

the Samsung HLR5667W shown on dealtime is close enough and equally good

Looks like your getting your set all things being well ie.

    - no faults
    - waiting for the price reduction too a sensible level
    - no new competition form other sets or technology D-ILA, LCOS etc.

    in June/July 2006.

I bet you cant wait. :D :smashin:

    hi Razor

yes i cant fool around much longer, so it'll be one of the sammy's unless of course something alse comes along :D :smashin:

i've done enough research so it's just a case of waiting now, to see how good these new ones are, i must abmit i do like these slim bezel sammy ones; i.e the HLR5667W, i'm beginning to prefer this design to the sp 50.

but money is tight because i need a new kitcken/double glazing, so i need the best/biggest screen at the minimum cost; so this means loads of research on the web...it's the same with a new kitchen too, i'm hoping these new tvs aren't too pricey after 6 months :D, because all the experts tell you to wait 6 months anyway......it's just about the only rule to follow!

my research tells me Sammy are the best...well, touch wood :suicide:

1080p would be very nice but will HD DVD or Blu-ray be 1080p? I don't think there will be much 1080p material about as most will be 720p.

With 1080p TV and material, one would be able to sit much closer to the TV- presumably 7' away for a 50" TV. This would allow most sitting positions to be located away from the wall enough to accommodate for the surround and rear surround speakers on a 7.1 system, very nice.

This relies heavily on the quantity of pre-recorded 1080p HD material of course. If there is very little then there wouldn't be much point other than HTPC gaming. I'm not sure how good graphics cards are these days running games at 1080p.

yes i think 1080p is a few years away yet, even so; the tv will be more advanced than the existing sp50, i'm starting to prefer the HLR5667W, i think it will be cheaper and good enough for me...we'll have to wait and see

:D :D wait and see, yes but no longer than xmas time, because what's holding us up with regards to advancements in technology is the poor reception we get and this tells me a 1080p dlp is a waste of money... :thumbsdow

its just a gimmick, like the latest mobile..you dont really need it; but you feel you should just to keep up with the Joneses.. :thumbsdow
