    says who?
valve said there is only a likely fix for ati cards, not a definate one. the cards apparently have the correct features, but wether they will work - only time can tell.

One thing's for sure, it wont work for nvidia.

I not too bothered about using fsaa. I'm sure the specs are already so high on half-life 2 that you won't even think about using fsaa which will only slow your framerate down.

I've just read the same thing here:-
    FSAA bug HL2
Mind you I don't think I've ever used FSAA - I prefer faster frame rates personally

Valve reckon it's a problem with compressed textures that should be resolved with upcoming graphics hardware. Looking at the possible HL2 and D3 delays most tech heads will probably be running the next gen hardware anyway. ATI owners will have to wait for a patch if it ever materialises, it's unlikely to be resolved with drivers. Personally I never use AA, I prefer a higher res to help reduce the jaggies.

the ati 9700 pro and the 9700 are capable of displaying 8x anti aliasing. Half-life 2 is probably 4x aa at full screen, so no probs with frame rate either on or off mate :)

    although i'd gladly upgrade my 9700 to a 256mb 9800 :)

I think you'll find mattuston that the 9700 series is only capable of 6x anti aliasing, you may be thinking of anistropic filtering which blends mip maps together for a more fluid look as apposed to aa which blurs the edges. Anyway, 4x aa is good enough for anybody as there is a large performance drop going from 4x to 6x and negligable difference in image quality.

Going back on topic all aa issues in halflife2 (nvidia & ati etc) have been fixed.

Lots of other forums have the same discussion should you need to verify. Just trawl though all the techno babble and you'll find a simple sentence saying all aa issues have been fixed.

Hope this was a worthy first post!
    See you around the forums

i'm sure it must be 8x anti-aliasing or it wouldn't show up in my advanced display options?

    you're right its 6x anti-aliasing and 16x anisotrophic filtering
