see your GP on Monday if its still bad

I had 'wry neck' as a result of being a bit reckless in the gym, and it occasionally returns ... sometimes when drying my neck after a shower, sometimes even stress causes it

these links might describe your symptoms:

at its severest I was prescribed diazepam as a relaxant together with diclofenac (i.e. Voltarol) for the pain; used a 'neck pillow' (use a towel for a makeshift one) and had a few physio sessions

Yeah got a bad neck too. Always happens after I get out of the shower, along with my back.

Just learned to live with it.

Lots of complex structures in the neck. See your GP. I had a problem flare up some time ago and I must say GPs were useless. In the end went private and the physio who was my first call (to help with symptom relief only) spotted the exact problem that all the GPs an local surgery missed - and it took her about 30 seconds.
Best of all it turned out that some basic anatomy knowledge a about what nerves go into which joint e.g. C4 C5 was enough to pinpoint the exact physical location of the problem. But this skidded past the GPs..Mind you the operation had to have was no fun - but much better than the risks I was running by being 'unfixed'.
Of course you may be sleeping 'badly' - all scrunched up - or somesuch.

Anyway see the Doc - but don't be surprised if the Doc doesn't nail it first time. If they don't then persist/insist.

And after all that there is one other piece of advice.
Don't chew your viagra,- just swallow it.
