Backing up media

When I had Sky HD installed recently I sold my Freeview/HDD/DVD Recorder as I had no use for it. However, it was possibly a moment of madness as now I have Sky - I'm not able to burn media to disc without I assume buying another unit to do so. So, if the HDD crashes in your Sky box - does that mean you've lost all your saved programmes? Big problem if you have a 1.5TB box!

No PVR was ever developed (or intended to be used) as a long term archive - simply as a timeshifting device. Yes - if the hard drive in your PVR fails and needs replacing, you will lose whatever stuff you had saved on it. Just like you would if your PC hard drive crashed and needed replacing, if you didn't have a backup of it.
