Backdraft 4K Blu-ray Review & Comments

Thanks for the review Cas. Very tempted reading about the DTS-X mix - I’ve got it on Apple TV in 4K but it’s just lossy 5.1. I’d love a steelbook of this, not just because it’s a bit of a classic, but because the artwork for the US release must surely be a contender for worst photoshop job ever!

This is available in 4k UHD With HDR on Amazon Prime at the moment. I stumbled upon it the other week.
I don't think they'd do multiple 4k masters of this film, so it's likely the same one with a limited bitrate. Will check it out.

Couldn't agree more Cas, this 4k disc is demo worthy for a sublime 4K PQ and an amazing DTS-X track.

There's only one way to watch and hear this film, and that's on this US 4k disc, anyone thinking about streaming this, don't, just go for the disc, especially if you are DTS-X ready.

Thanks for the review. I’ve just chucked in an order for the disc at WOWHD , at Just under £19 (edit......inc 20% vat) delivered that’s a great price. Looking forward to watching and hearing this again. Think the last time I saw it was cinema release back in the day

Thanks Cas. One I'd like to see, so on my rental list (Bless Germany for seeming to get pretty well all the 4K releases).
Just saw on IMDB there was a Backdraft 2 in 2019!
(Got a feeling, it didn't match the first one!)

I had no idea this was being released in 4K, definitely one for my list!

Unexpected to see so much love for this. Another review which has lightened my wallet. I had forgotten about this being an early Ron Howard. I haven't seen this since the cinema and Mrs P has never seen it so I am looking forward to it's arrival. Thanks

Agree Cas, I imported last year and the DTSX sound echoed round the room, was great fun.
I really enjoyed the transfer, some shots really popped compared to others but overall was very happy with it.

Even making all possible allowances for the repulsiveness of 90s cheese fest Americanism, this is still a laughable film, and not even in a good way.

Even if it hadn’t been a cheese burger without the burger, Baldwin is so bad it’s an impossible wetness to watch. I don’t think I even stayed until the end the first time around.

I was rather astonished that it was possible to have such a fistful of fine actors and still produce such sub B-movie drek.

Still want this but I reckon £15 is my limit.

Was also excited by the Turbine Media announcement of Daylight with Atmos/Auro audio but no sign of that one yet.

Shame it's not atmos. I will probably rent it off itunes and tolerate the 5.1 mix. No way I'm paying £20 for Backdraft, no matter how good the PQ is.

Not Atmos? It’s DTSX which is at least equal and if you have the channel count is actually better than Atmos.

unless of course you were referring to the Apple mix?🤔

You're making me want to watch this!

Must be years since I have seen this, and while I have a fondness for 80's and 90's cheesy movies, I think this one was disappointing. I seem to recall it had good fire-fighting sequences, but like every movie that came out about the same time as Silence of the Lambs, it had an completely unnecessary serial killer plot tacked on.

I would probably watch this again if it popped up on Netflix, but don't think I'd actually drop cash on it, however good the transfer is.

I think I've only seen this on VHS so very excited to watch this again in 4k and hearing in DTS-X glory! Blind purchase from amazon seller today!

I was also going to watch it again.

But I didn’t have the courage to kill myself first.
