Good news form the Digital Bits. They say that B5: Season One will be released in the autumn in the USA with lots of extras.

R2-Project are saying that 'series one' of B5 will be released on the 14th October in this country.

Let's now hope the quality will be decent, not like that first one they did! It was almost desaster.
I hope there are enough real B5 fans out there so they will reach at least season 3 with DVDs. IMHO seasons 2 and 3 are worth any money to have them in my home cinema!

more to read on rec.arts.sf.tv.babylon5.moderated - that's how it came out

    Let's hope . . .
    Cheers

    Taken from Dark Horizons:

"Babylon 5 (DVD): J. Michael Straczynski, the creator of the superb multi-year/arc sci-fi story talked about the upcoming disc release recently: "On the DVDs, last I heard they'll be out around mid-November, with the whole first season at about a hundred bucks. I did the commentaries on 'Signs and Portents' and 'Chrysalis', and an on-camera intro and interview. They've also done new interviews with Rick Biggs (Dr. Franklin), Claudia (Susan Ivanova), John Iacovelli, John Copeland, Stephen Furst (Vir), Jerry Doyle (Mr. Garibaldi) and others. So it should be a pretty big deal overall, much better than the movie DVD". Thanks to 'Kosh' "

Interesting about Claudia's alleged appearance, or should I say reappearance, as JMS said she dropped out at the last minute a short while back. We'll see.

They fell out quite badly didn't they? I think that was why she was not in the fifth season.

A hundred bucks sounds a bit pricey - if it is a hundred dollars then it will no doubt be two hundred pounds over here!

Fell out quite badly is an understatement Lex. In a way you can't blame Claudia as she was being underpaid compared to the men and didn't feel valued over the role's development etc. - no rise meant no show in the season. I'd be surprised to see her appear on any of the sets, but if so it'll only be out of loyalty to fans because there's little or no real cash up for grabs and the feud is alive and well. However, it would be great for once to have an interview on disc where an actor actually spoke the truth and not some schmalz diatribe as per, so I say bring her on:devil:
Just reminded, did you see the Anthony Hopkins doc' the other night? Loved the bit where he said he quitted a play because the director was a bully and moreover a f***** whom he weren't taking the smellies from.
$100 is premo isn't it, when you compare other US sets, even with the hype of sworne extras being worth it after the initial cash cow rape of a dvd...

I can't see why it should cost more than Buffy boxsets, and they are really cheap stateside.

I missed the Anthony Hopkins doc :( shame, it sounded good. I heard they had some behind the scenes shots of Red Dragon too.

I started watching the first series of B5 on Bravo this week - I can't believe how different Ivanova's character is in the early episodes - she has no sense of humour, and she even tries a russian accent!
Babylon 5 was a strange series, it was capable of such highs and such lows - some of the stuff they did in the third/fourth season was just fantastic, but some other episodes are tragically bad!
I'm looking forward to watching it all again... I think we may have to set aside about a month of our lives to watch all five series though!
Shame they have not managed to do anything since. I heard that JMS has a new series in the works, but don't know much about it.

Lex, JMS has done Jeremiah but it aint all that. He has gone online asking watchers/fans of his to tell friends to get viewing figures up for a second run - thinks of Alan Partridge for some reason! He also did the Legend of the Rangers (LOTR as also known!) pilot which aint too bad but strangely Jeremiah got picked. I'm guessing that the big boys thought Luke Perry would pull in, well, let's not go there. Oh we're here. Jason Priestley is in one ep. parading his bum whilst shagging some bird, in which it's so bad I nearly cried with laughter (the ep. that is) - cause the lady friend gives me one of those mental buurrooww porn base sounds on sight. There is even breasts on parade in several Jeremiah eps, another lowest common denominator pull in.

You're right, JMS always seems to mix stuff up with the excellant being slayed at times with the p1$$ poor. It'll usually be like, oh that episode rocked, gotta watch next week. Then, noooooo!

There where some Red Dragon clips. You saw AH walking down with crew in the old cell and an actual clip of Lecter playing with Ed Norton's mind and alone at a concert - with a pony tail; porn star cum cannibal, bite me!!! There were also clips of Titus in which he really does go psycho - dvd onroute! In a way I'm filled with dread about a 're-do' of Red Dragon, but then again I love AH as Lecter and presume it'll deny true comparison for many reasons. AH did say he would be different in style again and to Hannibal not so nice or lovesome - can't rememer his exact phrase but I taped it anyway.

I hated a grand total of one episode of B5....the dreadful TKO. I never get bored of the rest, and have sat through more than one 15 hour marathon (should that be Snickers) sessions.

    What do you want?

I hadn't heard about this new Jeremiah series - I will have to chek it out. Thanks for the headsup encaser. Is anyone showing it in the UK?
I watched a couple of episodes of Crusade, but it was pretty awful :( I guess I kind of gave up on JMS after that and didn't really follow what he was doing. There were rumours for a while about a B5 movie, but there doesn't really seem to be much point in that if you ask me, I mean what is there to say? They have already told the story from B5s beginings to its eventual end.
It is a shame JMS hasn't managed to produce anything else worth watching - Babylon5 even now is still impressive in its scope, the way he managed to tell such a huge epic arc story was brilliant, especially compared to Star Treks dull episodic 'going nowhere' format.

I am looking forward to Red Dragon, if for no other reason than Ralph Fiennes and Ed Norton are two of my favourite actors.

Just read - or reread?! - that Claudia is definately not doing an interview on series 1. And that Michael O'Hare was awol and couldn't be traced, so he's not on either.:( Still, let's hope he resurfaces, for say, S3 and Claudia calms her heels and gets in too.
I'm really looking forward to a widescreen outing of this whilst avoiding the crap Bravo symbol'd 4:3 watered digital edit...rant, rant...expletive... :p ;)

Well just checked around. Most of the usual places I have ordered DVDs from aren't listing it yet :(

However Amazon have the r1, release date 5/11 whilst blackstar have the r2 due for release on 14/10 !! No ideas which is the better version so I think I will wait for some feedback from others before deciding which to go for!
