Does anyone know if Babylon 5 is going to be release on DVD?
If so, when?
Yes. Soon (I hope).
The Gathering and In the Begining are already out on one DVD.
Yes, already have them. Dissapointed they are not in 5.1.
I mean is the series going to be out?
I used to frequent the main Babylon 5 newsgroups, don't seem to find the time these days. There is a huge demand for them. JMS, the creator, wants to do them....
A friend told me at the end of last year that depending on how well the initial DVD sold there was a good chance rest would start shipping sometime this year.
Okay I'll just add this bit after some scouring the b5 newsgroup
Posted by JMS sometime in the last few weeks!
Any idea if they have been mastered for 5.1?
I doubt that the series will be remastered into 5.1, if Warner's have anything to do with the releases, unless J.M.S. (J.Michael Strazynski - creator of B5) demands them to do so.
Also, I have heard another worrying rumour. When HMV in the UK released the 4 TV movies for Babylon 5, in widescreen, people who had bought them complained because Warners and/or HMV had simply taken full-screen pictures and placed black-bars over the top and bottom. In essence, you were getting even less picture than the standard 4:3 prints.
I've now heard that the US DVD featuring the Pilot Episode (The Gathering) and "In The Beginning" has similar problems. "In The Beginning" has been allegedly transferred from a 4:3 print, and then cropped to look like widescreen, with black bars at the top and bottom.
Can anyone confirm or deny this please?
Finally, in the US, the DVD features both "The Gathering" and "In The Beginning" on one DVD. However, in the UK, it appears that in March 2002, we will be getting two separate discs. Again, can anyone elaborate on why this might be? Is it to do with Warner's UK trying to fleece us for more money, or will there be differences to the R1 versions?
Warner US is planning to release Season 1 by the end of the year along with a lot of other tv shows.
