Hi, I am planning on getting B&W speakers LM1 for my home theatre system. Initially, I was recommended by the shop assistant Denon receiver (1908). He said that the B&W speakers sound soft while Denon receivers are more "crisp" or "hard", therefore they recommend combining them to avoid too hard or too soft sound. But I can get good price on Pioneer receiver (either 917 or 1017), from other shop, but I don't know if the Pioneer receiver isn't too soft. Then I would get too soft sound, which might be a disappointment (for the money I will spend). Because the speakers and the receiver come from different shops I can't test them, before buying them.
Could anyone advice me on hardness/softness of pioneer receivers?

I have always fround Pioneer "punchy and forward" and Denon "smooth and refined". Is there any way you can listen to both systems through these speakers? That would be your best bet and that way you can decide which sound you prefer.
