    hi all

am replacing my outdated AV system which has served me well for 10 years.

    decided on a Pioneer LX5090

    70% movies, 30% music - room is 15x20 feet

still debating Amp/speaker combo - would love your expert input.

    Speakers:
    Anyway I am considering
    - B&W 685 av pack (685, 686, HTM62, ASW608)
    - KEF 3005SE (small and like the black gloss)

    Amp:
    Debating between
    - Denon 1909
    - Pioneer VSX 1018AH
    - Pioneer VSX-LX51
(ruled out Onkyo or Yamaha, do not doubt they are quality, but they just so ugly I can't get passed it, yes I am a heretic )

on a side note I have seen The B&W CM5 AV pack :smashin: (CM5, CM1, CM center and ASW10LM) a bit over what i had planned to spend, but that black gloss finish is messing with my mind - would the above amps be good if I chose to go down this unwise path :suicide:?

    cheers

    Im not an expert.
I have however owned a pair of B&W 602's for a few years.
I love them. I recently upgraded my amp and they sound better now than they ever did.
I use them for cinema and music and Im pleased with the results on all levels.
I spent 3 hrs parked in front of them today with my eyes closed absorbing crisp clean instrumental sounds with a clarity that at times blows me away.

(ruled out Onkyo or Yamaha, do not doubt they are quality, but they just so ugly I can't get passed it, yes I am a heretic )

    Ugly ?
If you want Denon get Denon but Ive never thought my Yamaha looked ugly.
    Motorcycle or receiver.

    thx for reply,

it's not the yamaha box is ugly, it's not, but that display in orange .

kind of leaning towards the pio amps tbh, do you think they have enough juice to power that 685 av package? (also can't spot a dif between the vsx 1018 vs vsx lx51, except the extra hdmi) -or do I need a beefier sc-LX71?

also the amp are 6ohms and speakers are 8ohms - is that an issue?

anyone else have thoughts on the KEF av pack vs 685 av pack?

sry for noob questions, but i am ;)

IMO there is no substitute for cubic inches or as someone else said "no replacement for displacement".

As for black gloss - you'll be having to dust it twice a day, every day.

With the B&Ws, I'd go for the SC LX71 or equivalent at least. Shame you don't like the Yamaha's - but if looks are more important than sound.........

are you suggesting that the pioneer amps are a compromise in sound? ie vs a Yam RV 1900

didnt think i was compromising on sound over looks but rather getting both
