Hi i posted a similar thread on the reciever thread but thought i'd get more joy here. I'm looking to get a set of these, i've always liked B&W and have pretty much got permission from the other half to get them and a new amp. I was considering the AVR250 and wondered whether these would be a decent combo. Also would i be wasting the extra money going for the AVR350 with these speakers or would i notice a difference?

PS i know this is probably an annoying thread but any help would be much appreciated.

    Hi;
I have recently upgraded from the AVR300 to AVR350 on my Acoustic Energy AE1 MkIII and the improvement is astounding, both in lowering the noise floor to reveal more subtle information, but also in solidifying the body of all instruments and vocals, please listen to them together. B&W kit is certainly capable of revealing those improvements.

The AVR350 is noticeably better than the AVR250. Now for the big however. As great as B&W M-Theatre is, it is not a patch on Acoustic Energy AE1 mk3s. The difference would be there, but possibly not worth the extra outlay.

Thats what i'm thinking. I suppose i could get the 350 and MT30s and if and when i move somewhere bigger add a pair of decent proper hifi fronts. I would have thought for DVDs this package will work great? I do have hifi seps in another room for audio anyway and of late i've not been using it. The only time i listen to music nowadays is in the car.

Personally for £3k I would go for -

    AVR350 - £1500
    B&WXT2's - £700
    B&W XTC - £550
    B&W PV1 Sub - £800
    B&W MT rears - £250 (?)

Total comes to - £3,800. You should get 20% off so total is £3k.

20% is a big discount isnt it? looks like a great package but i dont think my local dealer is the sought that would give 20% off. Dont get me wrong i'd expect a discount but 10% would be a fair achievment i reckon.

I agree, to expect a 20% discount is taking the michael. A 10% discount or a good deal on the required cables would not be unreasonable to expect.

Get the AVR350 if you like a solid, muscular kind of sound...I've had mine a week already, and it's an absolute cracker!

I will take on board a bit of what rags had to say though. I think i'll try the Package with XT2s at the fronts cos they do look good and aren't too big for my other half to moan. If i think the diff justifies the cost between them and the normal MT30 package then i'll go for it. I'm a bit out of touch and hadn't considered the XT2s but i think they'll be ideal.

What would sound better with the MT1s?

AVR300 with p85/3 for the fronts or
    AVR350?

Got my demo booked for thurs with AVR350 and MT30 package plus trying it with XT2s at the front instead of normal speakers. Now for the question i already know the answer to, should i look at the DVD137 to go with it given that i only have a samsung 850 DVD player at the mo?

There is no need for an extra power amp for the fronts with the M1 satelllites as they cannot be biamped. Therefore the better componentry onboard the AVR350 would be most likely to offer an improvement.

When you try the XT2's also make sure that the centre is an XTC.

The store didnt have the xt2s in stock (they got a set in for me to demo) so will prob not have the xtc in. I know the normal one from the MT30 pack will not be as good but i can add the xtc a little later when the funds are available. Gotta get the cash together for the rest first.

I took the plunge and went for XT2 fronts, PV1 sub and M1 centre/rears, with AVR350 and DV137. Its sounded fantastic, was particularly surprised by the stereo sound from the xt2s without the sub. When i've sold off my old seps i will prob upgrade the centre to the XTC but i have spent enough for one day! I've still gotta break it to her indoors that i spent over a grand on a DVD player. She may well kill me! She's too clever for me to lie about it so i'm gonna have to come clean, oh well.

I got about 7.5% discount BTW. Could have got more probably by shopping around but if i need any help/advice/service etc then the shop is only 5 mins away. Plus cheaper isn't always best.

Cheers for the input mate. I may not have thought of the combo without it. I'll do my best but after deposit i've got 4k on 12 months BNPL to clear first, that will take at least 4 or 5 months!

I understand. The XTC has two of the drivers found in the XT2 and it performs very well.

congrats mate. Looks like you went for a cracking setup. Bit of a stretch from the AVR250 & MT30's you were after at the beginning. Have the DV137 myself aswell, but not had the chance to connect it all up yet. Waiting for carpet to be laid next week......

Tell me about it! I doubled my original budget. It sounds amazing on both music and DVD! The CD sound is far far better than i expected. I have had a prob with the DVD (not rare by all account) but its being swapped for a new one soon. Great service too!
