    Hi All,

Ok, so I'm in the process of a major Home Cinema upgrade. It's time for my ageing Rel Stadium III to retire and be replaced by something more up to date, as I'm sure technology has moved on considerably.

On the short list is a B&W DB1, Paradigm Sub 1 and the Velodyne DD15+. In truth the Sub 1 and DD15+ are stretch for my budget, but as this is a sub I'll have to live with for a good few years I may be prepared to splash out the extra and eat beans on toast for the next few months, if it's going to be worth it.

The sub will be used entirely for movies. It'll be fed by an Anthem D2v processor and partnered by PMC IB2i's at the front and CB2i at the centre. The power amps are all Naim Audio. The room it'll be in is 5m long and 4m wide, with the sub will be placed along a side wall.

I'm aware that all 3 subs get excellent reviews (and I've heard the sub 1 and was very impressed), but was wondering if anyone out there with real-world experience of any, or all of them, has any words of wisdom that might help me chose (aside from get a demo, which I will do if I can).

    Comments welcome

    Many thanks, Roman.

Not heard any of those my self but from months of reading reviews it seems the para and the velo are better options than the b&w, I love there speakers but apparently for the money they are not upto the competition. Can you get a demo of them? That's a hefty budget have you considered two USC 15" subs?

Thanks. I just edited the post regarding the demo as you submitted yours :) I'll aim to get a demo if I can, but it may not be practical. I simply haven't got room for two subs unfortunately, otherwise it'd be a good idea.

    Cheers, Roman

Hi James what about the JL f113 or a couple of the MK Sound x12's or even a couple of mk x10's when they arrive.

One other benefit of the JL audio sub is that it has its own room calibration to sort out room modes, which is important at low frequency. Contact Allan at Ideal AV and you can go and give it a demo in a proper listing room

    Hi Roman,
What about the Paradigm Studio Sub15?
I can also vouch for the USC15.

I have a Paradigm Sub1 and I am absolutely astounded by it.
I have to admit, I have not compared it to other current high end subs, but before choosing my AV setup, have owned and listened to lots of high end Hi Fi equipment.
The Sub1 is great with music and movies and when required, pressurises the room with great power and accuracy.
It is also has the ability to be very subtle and tuneful.
The PBK software supplied is very easy to use, gives you options for placement and gives you a flat response curve.
Some other Subs will punch you in the chest and vibrate your sofa harder if that is what you require, but if you want a Subwoofer to do everything very well, I cannot recommend the Sub1 enough.
I play my system at high volumes frequently and have never heard my Sub1 distort, despite the bass energy being enough to make you feel quite queasy at times.
My AV room is about 20 feet by 12 feet and has concrete floors and soundproofed walls.
You sound as though you have a Hi fI bias to your requirements and I think the Sub1 will match your Anthem, Naim and PMC system well.
    Good luck with your quest.

A USC18 @ well under £3000 when it becomes available in a month or so would be a killer sub for the money, should be as good as a DD18 for half the price.

Rich should be getting it on demo shortly so should be able to comment on how good it is.

Not 100% sure but I thought they were looking at the NU12000DSP as the original choice 6000DSP was not thought to be up to the job.:devil:

I've got the Sub15 and its excellent. As Keith stated USC will be making an 18" to be released very soon. I will be demoing one. Not to replace my Sub15 but if its that good never say never.

I'm in North London if you want to hear the Sub15.

    Hi mojo,
ive never heard the JL's and I do mean to visit Al and have a listen.
Not sure what I'm going to do sub wise as very happy with Sub15 but IMO 2 would be better so may look out for another.
To the OP sorry for derailing your thread but all the subs mentioned are worth consideration.

I agree if you can accommodate 2 subs its the way to go big or small but always sealed:)............. m4ccam / Andy came over this aftie and we hooked up his ep4000 and my diy 15's were transformed in every way , that amp in 2ohm mode at 11oclock gave more than mine at the 2/3oclock position and the odd thing about all that power is that the drivers didn't seem to move as much as with my amp in certain scenes in movies that I know well.............I will definitely be changing my amp for an ep4000 as it gave more dynamics slam punch it had it all:eek:
