    Nic,

They are a gorgreous thing. Quite beautiful in this strange black grained wood veneer. I even like the leather around the midrange pod and down the front.

Straight out the box with an Ikemi, Bonnec preamp an Classe power amp they sounded great. Once we changed to the Bonnec stereo power amp and put the CD12 in it was quite extraordinary. Just lacks the slamming bass of a well tuned Keltik but we have plans to fix that.

To give you an idea of what it's like a chap who post over at the TAG forum came in to see them on Thursday. He has 803's and a DVD32r/AV23r . He's ordered his Bonnec stereo amp to replace some of his 100x5R. He spent a couple of hours listening to CD's. I'd been out and hadn't heard the system with the CD12 so I came in to join him. We played a few of my discs tehn I asked if I could put on some records. He doesn't have LP's. There was a LP12/LINGO/EKOS/Klyde deck in the room. Put it on and played "Walking on the moon" REALLY loud. We both had our jaws on the floor. His words were, "That's astounding, my CD's don't sound anything like that! I guess I need to buy an LP12 now as well, hahaha". We then started grabbing lots of records and more cd's. I was with him for about another hr and a half. I could have sat there all night. It's rare that we get too excited about hi-fi products these days but a few select items make us want to bring in all our fav's from home. CD12 did it, the Bonnec amps did it, an Ekos did it all those years ago, these speakers do it....

We had the F1's in the shop last year. They were the best passive speaker I'd heard at that point. We then took on B+W Nautilus and after living with 802's up here I'd say it's a close thing between them. 800's are a different leaugue I'm afraid. Sorry to say if there are any F1 owners reading.....

Christ. Now I can't wait to get a moment to come in and view the new X-box and get a chance to hear these babies :D

Might have to take a day off work just to use it for a visit to Stereo Stereo :)

    Alan,

The Sig's are going to the chaps house to see if they fit in the room...Not sure when we're doing that though. Also XBox is now at home. Let me know when you want to come in and I'll make sure all the toys and me are in....just don't tell my "Alan" as he's banned the BOX from the shop as it seems to stop s getting any work done!

    Gordon,
You may be familiar with AVS member TK Chan. He has the 800's as part of his superb HT set up in his Hong Kong apartment.
I was there till 2am listening to DVD Audio and SACD last year while in Hong Kong. They give a superbly natural sound as you will find out.
TK's Sony G70 also had the edge on my Barco 808. Its set up brilliantly with the Fara 3000 as front end.
Amplification was by Mark Levinson while disc spinning duties were handled by the Pioneer AX10.
    Talk about high end.

    Eric
PS, Hey at least I had the exact same screen as TK, Stewart Stuiotek 130, 87"x49"

Gordon, thanks for that. I was fearful they woud be this good.:(

Every time I have heard these B and W Nautilus 800 series speakers I am more impressed. They are one of the few speakers that seems to offer some better than my £4k coffins. Ah dreams.......

Thought the F1 might be closest competition, the best I have heard to date.

Eric: I'm atalking about the 800signature. Not the normal 80x series.

If he has these he must have been one of the very first to get them. We sold the very first set in the UK and I'm sure hte guy didn't get them till mid November.

    Nic: Sorry mate....start saving....

    Gordon,
The speakers TK had were exactly the same as these but without the 'Tigers eye' wood finish.
Is anything else different apart from the finish?

I was under the impression (from b&w) that the signature series was exactly the same as other 800 series speakers but in a different finish.
    Is this not the case?
    Regards
    Simon

Sorry Eric: You are correct Nautilus 800 is the same as Sig's except for finish. I thought you meant he had something like the 801/2/3...

    Gordon,

Since I have those speakers I am very interested in your comment

'Just lacks the slamming bass of a well tuned Keltik but we have plans to fix that'.

I agree with your statement and would appreciate to know what your plans are.

    Best regards

    Dan

The whole 800 series range is awesome. My love affair with the speakers is now 5 years going strong with the recent upgrade from 804s to 803D. Cant reccomend them highly enough.

I've been surprised with the 800 series too.. I wasn't much of a B&W fan before, until i auditioned the baby of the range the 805s... I loved them so much i purchased a whole new hi-fi system around them... If i had the space i would of gone for the 802D's... A stunning range, i would love to hear the top 800's though.. Maybe one day i will :suicide: :D

They really are the most majestic of speakers. Capable of almost unimaginable dynamics.
I will always remember the impact they had on me, and just how miserable i was with my own speakers for quite a while afterwards.
