    Hi Sparky,
Best to mount them on stands if you can. The 601's like a bit of space to breathe. They are front ported so it's not quite as important. If you decide to go for stands make sure they can be mass loaded with sand to weight them down. The theory is the more solid the foundation of the speakers the better and tighter the sound. Some people here have taken to putting heavy weights on the speakers to improve things further!
With regards to the cable: Try it! If you like it stick with it. Alternatively some I can recommend are Atlas 2.0 cable at £3.49 a metre. Qed also make some good cable. Or you can make your own out of Cat 5 network cable. There is a lot of hype with cables and the subject of many a heated discussion.
What are you using to connect the CD and AMP together?

    thanks Knightshade
i'll go with the stands me thinks, the most popular seem to be nexus 6? just need to find some going cheap.

with regards to the cable i'll take your suggestion and try the cable ive got as it seems ok at the mo with my other speakers.

i'm using optical to connect dvd player and pc to amp, dont have a cd player i just use the pc as source for music.
that brings me to my next question are quality interconnects better than optical?

    many thanks

Nexus are a good choice. Ebay is usually a good source or check out the classifieds here.
With regards to optical and other conections, i'm not really an expert on AV equipment but by what I know (correct me if i'm wrong) the PC is sending a digital signal to the DAC on the AV Receiver and the DVD is sending to the DTS decoder.
75ohm BNC COAX cable would be the ideal choice only because I have found optical cable to sound a bit flat and lifeless to my ears. One thing I didn't find was any significant difference between cheap and expensive optical cable. I wouldn't have thought you'd gain a huge amount by upgrading. Others may tell you differently....
    Hope this helps

    Sparky,

You may find this thread useful. It tells you a bit about cables and what each type can be used for.
I would say for the DVD to Amplifier use either optical or COAX depending on which connectors you have on the back of your equipment. As I said I prefer COAX but it's only my opinion.
    Have fun.

    Today I demo'd

B&W DM600s3, LCR60s3 coupled with the Rel Quake Subwoofer

The B&W's just blew me away! They were so warm, fluid, subtle, the range was so impressive and detail unbelievable...they have to be demo'd to be believed. I think as they were coupled with the Rel Quake Subwoofer I was actually treated to more than I bargained for. I'm surprised you went for the 601's if you wish to wall mount as they are bigger than the 600s3 - in fact, I really liked the DM303's and they are cheaper but are simply too big in my view for a home theatre set-up.. the only con I have with the 600s3's are their size, compared to say other HT speakers such as the Mission M3/M30's. That said, they can't be beaten on sound in my view.

If your thinking of cable, have you tried power cable? I'm sure this will open up a huge debate, but I have it on extremely good authority that power cables (50mm core) are no different from high quality branded speaker cable and many audiophiles use it. You could pay £6m for QED Aniversary Silver or get a roll of power cable for next to nothing... it's worth sampling just to see if you hear the difference. If you can't then you could use your cable money towards the speaker stands if you decide to go that way.

    :)
