    Hi,

I have just bought one of these and was wondering if its any good and how well it compares with other headphone amps?

Also, i have looked on various websites and theres lots of mods you can do to it.

    http://www.rock-grotto.co.uk/B-tech.htm

Has anyone modded this? How well does it sound now? Compare to other headphone amps?

    Thanks

Did you read further down the review and the mods.....for the price,a real bargain, and with all the mods suggested...on a par with the Creek OBH-11.

Which would still suggest a bargain in real terms, but not a stunning amp in overall terms.
    The Creek,in my view,is good,but not up to either a decent X-Cans(with NOS tubes)or other amps above it's price range.....just a thought.

I had one. Its fine for cheap headphones, and as alexs2 says its probably as good as an OBH-11 if modded - but ultimately thats not saying all that much. If you ever get some reasonable quality headphones, the sort that cost more than about £50 then I'd say you will want to upgrade if you wanted to extract the most from your cans.

Just gave a B-tech hp amp, mentioned above, to another forum member to test whether one would benefit him or not. No feedback yet. I thought it was perfect for playing a zoom guitar pedal through and not upsetting the neighbours!

My combination of x-cans v2 (with amperex tubes - awesome), hd600 (with Cardas cable upgrade) , and MF x-ray connected with VdH the first sounds amazing - can cope with any taste thrown at it.

However would love to try an earmax pro with grado rs-1. Has anyone had any experience of these?

    I have upgraded the Amp.

I tried it last night and it sounds awesome. I used a mixture of Panasonic FC and ELNA capacitors and metal film resisters and a new op amp

What do you think to the amp (modded)? What headphones do you use? Have you compared it to anything? How does it compare?

    Thanks

the only amp i compared it to was the unmodded one and my iriver, its much better than the stock amp, much clearer sound and erverything sounds crsiper and less muffly. its a lot better than the iriver as well

i havent tried a top end can amp although i might have to invest :D

i know this is old, and i bought one of these headphone Amps, and i did all the mods, panasonic caps, metal film resistors, B brown opamp. And i wasnt impressed for a year............until. i finally took away the Tone pot.

Why i didnt do this a while ago, i dont know, i always thought that it sounded kind of Muffly toned, couldnt understand the fuss. but removing the pot was a revelation, sounds fantastic. I feel no need to get an expensive Headphone Amp now, and it works very well, with my Sennheiser HD580's

I highly reccomend to do the mods and remove the tone :clap:pot:smashin:

To be honest i took the tone pot away straight away because its an extra thing in the signal path.

You can also replace the volume pot with an Alps one for even greater sound!

Any idea where I can get a replacement power adapter for this.

I just bought the amp for £3.00 from ebay as it had the adapter missing.

Maplin is usually a good bet for these....may well be worth getting a regulated one for a few pounds extra.
