I'm thinking of getting an AX5i to go with my 757 DVD and using ilink for dvd,cd,sacd and dvd-a. I've read that you have to switch between 'movie' and 'music' modes when you swap a CD for DVD.

Does the iLink input not have an auto function that can tell what sort of signal is coming in and switch to that eg. 2ch PCM for CD, DD or DTS for DVD's, 5.1 channel audio for DVD-A or SACD?

Say I'm watching a DVD in DTS and want to listen to a SACD. What would I need to change?

With CD, dvd,(868/A5/i-link) the amp auto-switches to the correct format (DTS/Dolby Pro Logic etc)
So I would have thought the 757 would do the same.

I'm not quite sure what they were getting at but when I had a Rotel processor, I would set the DVD coax input to stereo and it would play CD's and the auto detect DD/DTS etc. The problem was that when it detected a DD2.0 signal it would switch to DPL2 and then stay in that mode when I next put a CD in. Most annoying.

What I want is one mode where I can play CD/SACD/DVD-A /DVD and never change anything on the amp.

By the way, have you tried SACD through the iLink and how does it compare with anaologue?

    Steve,
I am using the I-link for my A-5i and my 747i and the sound is superb when listening to either DVD , SACD or DVD-Audio.

I use phonos for CD playback and iLINK for DVD.
On the amp I have CD input set to DIRECT and DVD input set to MOVIE: THX.
Not sure if this is what you mean as you will still need to select the input on the amp.

If you use the same cable and input on the amp for both CD and DVD then the amp won't "auto-detect" the source and switch between MUSIC and MOVIE modes, you will have to do this manually.
