    Hi Guys

New to board and have a huge problem.

First of all my kit consists of:

    Pioneer 434HDE plasma
    Pioneer VSX AX5i amp
    Pioneer 868avi DVD player
    KEF 2005.2 speakers
    SKY+

OK, I've hooked everything up, the speaker calibration went a treat. However I am getting virtually no sound from the speakers, I need to switch the amp up really high just to get a faint sound from the centre speaker. Tried everything and really frustrated, I'm sure there is a easy solution - PLEASE HELP!!!!

OK, managed to get sound (sort of), switched the amp right up to -20db, getting sound from all channels except the 2 rear channels (I have a 7.1 set up). Any ideas why no sound from these?

I'm confused by your apparently conflicting statements.
If speaker calibration 'went a treat' then they must be outputting sound otherwise the mic wouldn't have picked anything up

You shouldn't have to turn the amp up to -20 to get sound.
I generally have it set to below -30 for Sky and as low as -50 at night.
I would check the wiring to ensure it is correct.

As for having no sound from the rears, have you enabled them using the OSD menu?

    01. Turn the volume way down (-40) to start with.

    02. Switch on the speakers :)

I've seen this once before where the amp will (oddly) run the MCACC calibration routine and then produce no sound from any sources and we found the speaker selector was set to off; it seems this has no effect on the MCACC routines.

Please ensure you do Step 01 FIRST.

    Best regards

    Joe

    Good point Joe.
The MCACC probably has a step in it to switch the speakers on in the event that they are turned off so it sounds the most likely cause.
