Hello

I've just plumbed in a turntable convertor to my Marantz AV receiver and the sound is awful. I've used quality brand new phono leads (2 sets) and through headphones direct from the turntable it sounds Ok. Everything else PS4/DVD sounds amazing. Any idea's?

What TT and cart, what model Marantz, more info please. When you say convertor do you mean a phono pre-amp? If so make sure you plug that into a standard line-in and not the phono in.

Hi Gibbsy

It's an ION Max Lp into a NR1510 Receiver.

What input are you using on the Marantz? Don't use the phono one.

Hi Rambles

Why, is this not what it is for?

I believe your TT has a high output so therefore does not need the Phono input of your AV amp.
Most TT have no form of amplification and need a phono amp or Phono input. Your TT most likely has a phono amp built in.

Hi Rambles

Why, is this not what it is for?
It is if you aren't already using a phono pre-amp. It looks like your turntable already has the RIAA on-board, so just connect it to a standard analog input and see if it sounds better.

Ok plugged it into the CD input and renamed it on the amp. It works now. Thank you both.
