What's the processor section 'only' like on this receiver?

I've just had a read of its manual at Arcam and it looks quite comprehensive.

I'm on the look out for a high quality alternative to Naim but at a lower cost.

The AVR300 + DV79 look very good for both AV and Hifi as a package.

I run ATC active speakers so do not need to know about the power amp section.

And before anyone asks, I have also been looking at as many alternatives as possible, Meridian, Lexicon etc etc etc.

    Thanks.

I can't comment on the processor-only performance of the AVR300, although I heard the unit with the onboard amps & thought it was great for stereo, but a bit overpriced for movies considering the competition. However, have you considered the Rotel 1068 processor? Great price for a nice quality unit imho.

I have, but the vain side of me wants a DVD/CD + amp/proc from the same manufacturer. I'm not really a fan of their players.

The Arcam has one or two touches I quite like that help, ie RGB pass through. An RDS tuner. Something else contained in the one box that keeps the box count down. And one or two other things.

I'd love the Naim combo of the AV2 and DVD5 but I'd need approx. £4500 or so. Hmmm.

I'm seriously looking at an Arcam combo of their AV8 and DV27a. But again it's prices. But the AV8 is slowly beginning to appear 2nd hand ex dem.

And then the 79/300 combo seems favourite at this price level.

I thought you were running a Primare processor or integrated, 31.7 perhaps.
Why the change...have you heard better?

The Primare processor and power amps is one of a few combinations that I am currently interested in.

    In a word Naim.

    Primare is very good indeed.

I just lust after excitement across the board. Naim does that. The drawback is price.

The Arcam kit is pretty special too but again price.

    So hence investigating the alternatives.

All that and to be honest I don't think I'm ever satisfied.:)

Same here really, just wanting to consolidate my Linn bits (see the earlier thread entitled 'Chuck out the Linn?') and the AVR300 seems to do that nicely. I've audioned it and I'm pretty sure it'lll do the job. The audio section is very good while the AV side sounds good enough to me.
