AVR2808/ lost the set up menu

For starters I got the product name wrong in the title which I can not change the product is the AVR 4306 but I guess the set up is common to many models.

Everything is connected via HDMI.

When I started to set this receiver up I got the set up menu on the TV straight away but since setting up the HDMI inputs pressing the set up button directly on the receiver results in no menu being displayed. What have I done wrong?

You did nothing wrong. It is not obvious but after reading this it might be:

You need to turn the video convertion ON and set it to pass through.

Video convertion displays all analog video inputs via HDMI as well as the setup display

Thanks for that info. I am setting this up for a neighbour so I can't try this straight away. I have a Sony 5200 receiver and this box of tricks seems to be hard work by comparison.

Seems strange to me that you can loose the on-screen set up menu so easily and there is nothing in the manual about getting it back. I take it that it is fairly straight forward just using the display on the receiver to set this up seeing that the on-screen display is non functional until I make the changes.

Out of interest if I select a non HDMI input should I not see the set up menu. The reason I am asking is that I am sure I tried other imputs but still got nothing.

Just had another look at the manual. Is it not the case that I just press the on screen display button via the remote?

I can't check this out yet as the unit is at my neighbours

It is not pressing the button only (which is correct).
The problem is the display is an analog source therefore you have to convert it into digital format before it can be displayed over the (digital) HDMI.
I had exactly the same issue but when switching Video Convert to ON it started to work as expected.

HDMI Output setup - analog to HDMI convert ON
