Having used the AVr100 at work since new, i can tell you it's annoying in the least with its setup.

For the best option you will need to wire your front L & R pair, and the sub to the front L & R speaker outputs. Set them to large in the menu and the others to small, option 1 I think. Then you will need to trim the sub's volume and cross-over levels until you get the sound you like.

Make sure all bass is sent to the front pair.

If you use the all to small and sub on, then you will have to wire the sub to both the front speaker outputs and the sub pre-out. I think is possible with your sub, check your manual.

    Hope this helps!

I am getting a REL Q150 to home demo with my current kit.

I was wanting some tips for connecting up and setting it up correctly as I'm not sure (neither was the guy in sevenoaks). I have read the faq but want to know if anyone has a rel sub and an arcam AVR100 - how is it set up?

I was going to set all speakers (KEF q35.2, 95.2c and q85s) to small + sub yes.

    However

The HCC AVR 100 review suggests using the front L/R preouts to connect the sub. This gives the same frequencies as the mains? In this case should i specify the fronts as large and set the crossover on the sub to around 45 hz (lower end of the q35.2s)

Finally where to position the sub - it could go next to the main speakers if it is magnetically shielded.

I have been reading but getting more confused so any suggestions welcome

    Thanks
    Calum

Found this from hometheatermag.com regarding the arcam avr 100.

"run the main left and right preamp outputs to the sub and select the third preset mode (large fronts, small rears and center, and no sub). This will allow you to use your sub in stereo modes and will also reroute the LFE output to the front speakers (and hence to the sub) for a home theater setup."

Would this be worth a try or would the other suggestion be better?

    Calum

In readin rel's manual.Youcan connect both the speaker levels in and the lfe at the same time.
    they have independant settings.
Set up your speakers and sub with music first.
Then set up using a lfe signal.
As each setting can be adjustd indpendantly you sould get it sound good what ever you play.

I agree with Cpark, if you set the front speakers to small, (in the Arcam the crossover is set to 100 hz, quite high), you will hear the sub too much...

I've got an AVR100 bi-amped with an Alpha 10p3, so I'm already using the front pre-outs (aren't I), just wondered if anyone has an AVR100 connected to a power amp and if there is any way you can still connect the sub when in stereo mode? Also I haven't been able to get an on screen display at all and the manual isn't much help.

There is a separate output for the subwoofer, lfe or sub...

yes I know that's how it's connected at the moment but it means that I can't use the sub when playing CD's or anything with 2 channel sound.

If your sub has high-level input connect it to the front speaker connections on the receiver...
