I just came back from a trip to the US and was lucky enough to catch Alien Vs Predator on the release day. (Aug 18th)

I have to say that I was pleasently surprised at how decent the story was. It starts off a bit slow but picks up the momento when, u know what hapens!

The back story and the last few scenes of the film actualy ressemble the old Dark Horse comics of AvP.
If you havent read those then go to a comic book shop and do so.

I have to say that there was potential for so much more and many scenes felt claustrophobic but the action and CG was excelent! Lance Henriksen was good in it, but no reference to androids, only that he is the leading blah, blah, blah in robotics.

It seems that this film is set after the events in Predator 1 and 2, but before any of the alien movies of course.
So it surprised me that no one knew of the predators.
I guess they are tryin to keep it all separate from each other.

Look for it when it hits UK cinemas!

i was disappointed, the storyline was good but it was handled just as badly as Resident Evil.. Hopefully the UK version will have less cuts, but i wouldn't bet on it. Oh and the chest burster bursting through a red shirt so you can't see any blood was as cheap as it gets.

Just returned from the States myself & after catching this film on my last night with my son was pleasantly surprised.
Although i really enjoyed the film, i also thought it had the potential to be a real blockbuster, but i feel it was a half hearted attempt to see if it drew in the crowds.
As stated above, it was at least 1/2 an hour too short, not enough gore & not really enough thought put into it to make it a real winner.
I really hope they make a sequal to this movie.
I give it 8 out of 10 - go see it.

I can't wait for the dvd release though !!

Looks like we are going to have to wait for the DVD to get the full uncut movie!
(thats shocking if you think about it, will this not just make people stop going to the theater??)

I also hope for a sequel with more in it. Not just action but back ground story too, with a return of the surviving character, and perhaps an alien/predator hybrid runing around?
Yes, we all want to see that!

That explains why the film is so short - most of it is on the cutting room floor. I shall not be going to see the theatrical version and will hold out for the Director cut DVD. All is not lost and I hope the extended directors cut will give us what we all originally hoped for :D

This is utter rubbish. The film was always a PG-13 before they even started shooting . There are a handful of slightly gorier shots but hardly the reams of unused footage Anderson if moaning on about.

Similarly the so called extended cut of Event Horizon is in actuality very little different from the theatrical release (its even more boring if anything).

He should just put up and stand by AvP as it is : at least some people liked it which is a novelty for Anderson's films in itself.

i don't think it was always intended to be a PG13. The studio had to decide whether to release the movie in the summer as a PG13 or October (horror season) as an R, and of course, money talks..

The american cinema version runs 87 minutes after checking the BBFC website it appears we have got a directors version which runs 100 minutes and might contain more gore as its rated 15 certificate.

Is this a BBFC website mistake or have we brits got a longer version ?

Just been on the Odeon website and it's a 15 with a running time of 101 mins.
Release date of 22nd October.....Why do we have to wait this long????? Oh yeah, so they can add the rest of the film they dropped on the floor...

That score was what killed the film for me, and the fact that there almost no zombie carnage :(

Given the fact that the film has been in "development hell" for the last 2 years, the fact it's had some good reviews at all is positive IMO.

Oh, and Turtle's Law states that: No movie containing Light Sabres, The Predator, The Xenomorph, or Samurai warriors, can be crap.

    It simply isn't possible :lesson:

(come to think of it, can you IMAGINE how awesome the film would be if it were set in a Neo-feudal Japan with light-sabre wielding samurai battling the predators & xenomorphs instead  )
