Only just got round to watching the extras disc on Alien vs Predator - it was worth buying the dvd for this alone!
Excellent stuff, and hours of it!

The only disappointment was the hidden "Easter egg" - a long drawn out skit by the bloke in the Alien suit (can't remember his name, surprisingly) who starts the whole piece saying "I'm an actor!"
    No, you're obviously not.

it's definitely not comparible with alien or predator in terms of suspense or terror, but it's a bit of pg-13 rated fun, and the alien vs predator battle scene is quite nifty :) My main critisism was that almost all the deaths are of the 'see alien/predator looking at human, pan away, hear human scream/see blood splatter' type

I really enjoyed it - WAY better than Alien4.
Sure, the acting's not up to much, but its a reasonable story, the fx are excellent, thanks to lots of model work and a small amount of well executed CGI.

As long as youre not expecting Hamlet....

I would compare AvP to a light snack, Where as the first predator and Alien a three course meal.

Thats the best way I can explain it.

At no point during the film was I bored, but I do think it was a missed opertunity to do something better. I would have prefferd a bit more gore and tension, I would like to have seen some holes in the story sorted out as well ( chest bursters only taking a short amount of time to come out for one thing).

Also what was the deal with

    spoiler!!!!

the chestburster at the end taking longer to come out of the predator and it having predator jaws? the ones that come out of humans dont have human jaws!

Just a one punch knock out when it could have been a top notch rumble in the jungle!

I enjoyed the movie as a popcorn have a laugh type of thing but it did let down the whole Alien Vs Predator ideal which has been built up with comics and books for the last 16+ years.

    Slight Spoiler
With AVP they try to build the tension and characters in the first half of the movie by not showing the Aliens or Predators clearly.
Now this worked with Alien and with Predator because you'd never seen them before.
95% of people who see AVP know what an Aliens and Predators look like, and if they don't there are pictures splattered all of the press.

Think we could have done with at least two more Predators, possibly fighting together against some Aliens, with humans being swatted out of the way in the middle.

As for complaining the chest bursters were too quick, they took that from the comics explaining Predators have genetically modified them, but to be honest if you get into that level of details, the whole idea of an Alien falls apart anyway. Squidgy little chest burster into 7 foot tall silicon plated killing machine with an exo and endo skeleton (otherwise how come skull in Predator 2) in a few minutes.

My advice, turn off brain and just enjoy it. Same goes for most movies of the popcorn variety.

The story for one is a joke, its too short & the fight scenes are something from Wrestlemania :boring:

The DTS track is good though, bloody typical

be honest ,when was the last time any of you watched a real horror film?be it good or bad,

i watched CREEP last week, not the best film iv seen but horrorfying never the less.

That's the problem with these crappy Holloywood films, there aimed at little kids who listen to 50 Cent & Linkin Park  If you any kind of fan of the original Alien & Predator movies, avoid like the plague, otherwise just use a free rental trial offer to watch it! :smashin:

I went to the cinema to see this and was looking forward to it.........and I want the time i spent watching this back. Thought it was pants tbh, and have put everyone I know off from watching it.

Does anyone think that Anderson ACTUALLY watched the originals or even sequels to these movies, from where i was sat, I think not.
For starters the aliens weren't even discovered when the new one was set, as it was way into the future in the original film(cant remember the exact date), correct me if im wrong tho.

I had thought about renting this on dvd for the new beginning and extended 'fights', but don't want to incase they don't improve it at all.

The new opening isnt anything great and even though they advertise the fight scenes as Uncut on TV, the film is exactly the same as it was at the cinema, the only difference in the new opening scene, they should get done for false advertising.

Think you can wait a whole month??? :D

I think the deal with Aliens not being known about is a little glossed over in the first movie.
Remember in Aliens, Ripley says they set down on LV-426 on company orders, and the company is Weyland Yutani. So the idea is the Weyland half of the company has circumstantial proof non-human intelligences exist and in the future, when they start space travel, on of the secret objectives is to seek out (new life <sic> ) these 'aliens'.

in AVP bishop weyland gets killed by an alien.then a number of years later appears at the end of alien 3,and before anyone says ..that was an android..then why when he got smacked round the head a load of blood poured out and not the normal white goo that should have came out.
    or am i missing something?

He was either a more advanced android with red liquid instead of the milk like stuff that Ash and Bishop ran on or he was a relation of Weyland, a great great great grandson or something.

AVP just felt like it was a heavily censored film, if it was "uncut" if that version exists, It might be really good.

PS technically if you look at the original alien, it does have a humanoid jaw. I think it takes on genetic traits from its birth host, what traits is at the discretion of the designer. We'd have to see what genuine (non human/predator/dog) Alien looks like if thats even possible.

    ramble over

Though I'd totally agree it isn't in the same league as Alien & Aliens, I did actually quite enjoy some bits of AvP. My favourite, albeit short, scene is where the Predators are battling the Aliens on top of the pyramid. Totally awesome.
