I purchased this new from AVI. I was hoping to use it, but it never actually happened. It's had perhaps 50 hours max usage and has been boxed since then. I've using DM10's to listen to music, so I know I won't use these again.

I won't post this item and would prefer you to come and see and test, to ensure you are happy with the item.

From a non smoking child free home.

This is a lovely looking and sounding speaker, quite amazing you can get so much out of so little.

    Price and currency: £500
Delivery: Delivery cost is not included
Payment method: Cash or Bank Transfer
    Location: Fordingbridge, Hampshire
    Advertised elsewhere?: Not advertised elsewhere
Prefer goods collected?: I prefer the goods to be collected

Just having a look at my emails from AVI. Looks like I purchased them in Feb 2014. In all honesty, I have no idea what warranty they have. I've had 9.1's, 2 x 10'2 and two of their Subs without any issues.

I've just emailed AVI to ask and will reply when they do.

These have been in their original boxes since purchasing less a small 'test' after purchase. Reason being, I've bought and moved 3 times in last 4 years ... So I've been using the 10's.

    Paul.

How do these compare to the 9.1's?

That's a very subjective assessment to make, that I really cannot do. They are surprisingly versatile little speakers with a big sound.

You're welcome to test if you're local. I'd just need to unpackage them and I've got a couple of acoustically different rooms, so you could choose one that suites your desired location.

I use the 9.1's as close monitors, but only because they are gloss white and the wife prefers the look of them. These speakers ( even as they are active ) do keep on going.

These are better than 9.1, if you mean original 9.1.

if it's 9RSS or later, than no.

Fair point Ruff, they are a smaller box, albeit ported to the rear.

You can convert 9.1 to RSS's I think with a tweeter upgrade and then re-wire yourself.

Well, if you want some bottom end, I've also got a Black and White AVI sub ... Ok, one black one white, not a striped one !! I'm currently using the white one in my computer room.... The black one is sitting on its own, unconnected and unloved.

Well, you know why I’m looking for the DM5’s, I’d look for £475 on the black sub. It’s the MK2 version. Together £875.

I’m presuming the DM5 don’t have a subwooofer out like the 9.1. How would you currently connect this to your dac or preamp?

I don’t currently have a dac with a subwoofer out.

To be honest, I have no idea. When I tested the DM5's I just had them on their own connected to an Apple Airport Express... I've been using the DM Sub's with my 9.1 & also my now boxed 10's.

Going to archive as their does not seem to be a market for AVI's here. I'll wait until the next £1 ebay session comes along :)
