I can't hear AV kit with signatures on it without thinking of Gavin Belson's signature box in Silicon Valley.

Steve needs to watch the infamously half-finished film “A Sound Of Thunder”, which covers dinosaurs, time travel and the butterfly effect. It is dreadful, but if they release it on 4K disc...

Liked the hardware reviews, waiting for Sony’s special edition OLED, the “Caveat TV”. Provided you can find a secret hidden menu and roll a six to start, it’s got a great picture, as long as you don’t use an off-board disc player or Apple TV. Also the OS is balls and the picture can’t be calibrated properly. Otherwise 8/10.

In happier news, Q Acoustics have clearly had an effect on the market if they are now finally being matched (nearly) pound-for-pound by the competition. Look forward to the reviews going up!

@Phil Hinton please disable YouView before you go mad in the AF8 long term test... according to Google, the steps appear to be Settings - Channel Setup - YouView Setup - Disable Youview

You could call this "ordinary consumer" simulation in the long term test - a few weeks of frustration, google for a solution, desperately try the first search result ;)

      Great pod cast again gents.
Am I right in hearing that the AF8 won’t do DV from outside sources like A4KTV and the Oppo? Both run DV on my A1, so what’s the difference between the TVs as Sony day they are the same?
Also, thinking of getting my A1 calibrated. Given the issues you’re having with them, is it worth it?

What about Kung Fury, he had a dinosaur cop partner. And if you haven’t seen it you can view it on YouTube.

      A great crowdfunding film.

I think the sources have to write a new updates for a particular set of new TV’s. The AF8 is “later this year” afaik.

Good podcast gents, especially the hardware discussions which I found interesting.
With regards to the two 5.1 packages reviewed, was there any mention from the manufacturers/suppliers about them adding a pair of matching upfiring speakers to the respective packages? That would make them even more attractive to consumers with a limited budget/space. Looking forward to the reviews being published in the coming days/weeks as the kids are nagging me about setting up their system in the loft.

      Steve,

Did you mention a new Processor from Marantz a 7705, if so any spec / timescale. At the other extreme are you going to publish a review on the Trinnov Altitude 16 shortly? Just got a Meridian 271 so this would fit well certainly if they extended the digital outputs option. Although I suspect my wife would prefer the cost of the 7705! Hence the interest, comparison would be interesting.

Q Acoustics don't currently make an upward-firing speaker, although I'm sure that will change in time, but they do make in-ceiling speakers that can be used for an Atmos set-up.

A review of the Acurus ACT4 is in the pipeline, along with the Trinnov Altitude16, and possibly the Marantz AV8805.

Looking forward to it, Phil's Sony review on VW760 cost me £15k, so suspect this next one might be expensive!

8805 would be interesting as haven't seen any reviews to date, also it would be interesting to compare to some older models such as the Arcam Av860, which a number of dealers have stated as their reference at this price point.

I haven't reviewed the Arcam AV860 but I can compare the Marantz AV8805 to the Arcam AVR850 which I use as my reference AV receiver.

Await with interest. Comments versus AVR850 would be great help.

Great Pod as usual, I have a couple of questions regarding film reviews and upcoming releases.
Is there a reason ITunes 4k releases are not added when talking about new releases ? These are becoming much more relevant with Apples announcement about Atmos coming to Apple TV and the prices of 4K ITunes titles compared to physical 4k makes it hugely appealing.

I loved the name check for 2000AD's "Flesh." It was exactly what I was thinking before it was said.
