I watched Steve on this - and as a Panasonic 902 owner was delighted to see two of the TVs being used for the test - who chose these - was it Steve ? A good and enjoyable segment as was the airport fire truck segment which really impressed (good advert for that company) - rest of it was all a bit ropey though - I didn't even know Jason B had left it - he was on at least one AV Forums podcast years ago wasn't he ? (Ive always assumed - wrongly no doubt ? - there was some secret link between the Gadget Show and the AV Forums)

Ah, the Gadget show... I remember their shambolic comparison between a curved and a flat TV to see which gave a better picture quality... only they used a flat LCD and a curved OLED, so it was an utterly pointless exercise.

The AVF team should create their own gadget show. The current show has been a farce for years... ever since the producers decided to make it a Top Gear style 'entertainment' show instead of an informative 'Tomorrows World' type show. The Gadget show is full of mis-information, unrealistic tests and some il-informed presenters.

I'm surprised Steve agreed to it as his credibility could've been in jeopardy.

The bit after Steve's where the guy came in talking about streamed sound v's UHD after listening to Atmos on a sound bar in huge barn of a room.....
Quote: "So I don't think it's worth investing in a UHD Blu-ray player for the audio performance"
      What a joke.

I think the streaming boxes took off as much as they did as a result of how difficult it is to get to watch everything you want these days.
I live in Ireland and they have only now (as of a week or two ago) finally released NowTV which I'd been waiting for so I can watch the coming Lions matches so I can now watch Sky Sports. On top of that my ISP gives me the ability to watch some of the Heineken Cup matches on BT Sport (they call it Eir Sport - ISP's name is "Eir") but I can't put it up on my Nvidia Shield, they don't have an App for my LG TV and I haven't seen any way to associate it with my new NowTV smart box - As a result the only way I can watch it is on my iPad which isn't great for groups and inevitably leads to my toddler wanting it to watch Fireman Sam (whereas I have him trained to believe the TV only ever shows Rugby so if I could get the games up on that I wouldn't have a problem) - the fact is if I did go down the Kodi path I'd get all the rugby I want and more with a lot less hassle.

Yes I watched Steve and thought he did a great job, maybe there's a future for AVF TV :rotfl:
Actually that would be quite good, Steve reviewing all new Tec n gadgets in the AV industry.

I do actually think Steve had only a small part to play though as I feel the Stunning Panasonic DX's played the lead roll.

Having the Panasonic's there though did make me wonder why there was no 2017 TV's instead.
Was it the gadget show that supplied the DX's or was that Steve's decision ?

Ether way I think it was the right choice

I was sceptical of VR too, and that's despite having played a bit of Oculus and Vive. That all changed when I played Resident Evil 7 from start to finish on a PS VR. It really is a game changer. The first genuinely fresh gaming experience I've had since Mario 64.

It's just too bad that Sony appear to have so little interest in PS VR, and that its release roster for this year is so thread bare. It's also a mess of wires and clutter, but I imagine that will go away should PS VR 2 ever happen.

If we are given an opportunity to reach a wide audience and give them the correct information we will always consider that. I don't see AVForums losing credibility taking part and providing the correct information in features like this and we will consider taking part in the future if we are asked back. Joking aside, I thought Steve did an excellent job of providing useful information in an easy to follow manner.

Enjoying the podcast so far and looking forward to Steve calibrating an Oculus Rift. Interesting to hear about Steve's experience on the Gadget Show. I normally fast forward through it in the hope of finding something interesting, relevant and accurate. This was the first item that caught my interest for this season. Does anyone know a good tech/AV programme ( including YouTube) or video podcast worth watching?

I had my Panny VT30 set just right some years ago with reference to callibrating the b***er myself. Then it all gets ruined with Count Withers appearing on national telly exposing his follicly shiny and challenged bonce to all, thereby destroying my white balance.... Thanks. :censored:

I have Resi 7 on PC, gutted it's a (timed?) exclusive to PS VR; I'd have bought a Rift just for that game.

Exactly as I have said regarding PSVR. You are in the game world. In Res 7 you are in that house, or you are flying an X Wing, or you are Batman etc.

I'd been holding off on VR up until now but I've got a hi spec PC and just ordered Ocuclus. I'm going to be billing you Steve if it's not as good as you say it is :)
Thought you did a great job on the Gadget Show. Can't be easy getting something scientific across to a show geared towards the masses. I thought the sound test was a joke though!

Good effort on the show gents.

Despite the bashing he gets each week, I for one am happy to hear Steve get excited about VR and movies. He's often the only one on the podcast that seems to like new tech and films!

I have to say that the still that Phil has picked for the Podcast is less Gadget Show and more Nosferatu's Big Day Out.

There aren't many good VR games yet, and some of those are exclusive to the PS VR. For me Resident Evil 7 is the stand out, it's head and shoulders above every other VR game. After that I'd say Rez is a must play, the Star Wars Battlefront VR Mission, then Batman. I think the latter may have exhausted its PS VR exclusivity window, so go for that one if you can.

Resi 7 though is the game changer. That's the game that will sell people on VR. There's simply nothing else like it. It's mind blowing.

      Excellent podcast as usual

I missed the gadget show Steve was on, I find the whole concept of the show pretty annoying and Craig Charles is very irritating

It's on Demand 5 if you want to see it. Steve's bit is very brief but is the best part of the show.

Pleased to read this. If accurate journalists turned their nose up at it, then we have a vicious circle and a more mis-informed public.

If there was no hair and make up available, i dread to think how bad the showbiz trailer was!

A "Black and white" version of a movie included on disc? So they wasted 40Gb of storage just to do the same thing as telling viewers to turn the colour saturation slider of their display down to minimum and then can show anything in grayscale with no "special" version required on disc.

Also I would like the Mr.Skin summary info of the episodes of those French series :D.
