Agree on the Bond sequencing, it's one of the many reasons I hate Skyfall.

Clearly Bond can't be the same person throughout since it's all been going on the 40 odd years. The best way to explain things is to say it's different people taking the same code name but Skyfall really ruined that.
Terrible movie Skyfall, Casino Royalle was the peak for me, they've yet to better it.

I was at a dinner a couple of years ago where Baroness Manningham Buller, former DG of MI5 was the after dinner speaker. She commented on Bond films by saying it was interesting to watch a film about a spy that doesn't really do any spying. He appears to be simply a state hired assassin. That was her definitive answer to how realistic they are.

Definitely took the shine off the films a little bit for me...

She's right, he is just a state-sponsored assassin and I'm pretty sure real spies don't enter a packed casino and introduce themselves by their given name. Real espionage involves grubby men doing grubby things in the shadows (see Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) but having said that, the Bond films are superb entertainment.

To be fair, in the real world, the bad guys don't tend to have nuclear missiles hidden in volcanoes or city destroying, laser firing, satellites either, but we tend not to focus on that.

Someone would have to be extremely naive to believe that the Bond movies are an accurate depiction of real life espionage.

Wouldn't it be great though if there was a bad guy with a super-tanker that swallowed nuclear submarines.

The most dubious definition of the word "best", ever!

The Matrix theory is an interesting one as can answer every single issue with the sequels, which to be fair is every single minute of them. My God they are so bad and compared to the original, the most backward tracking tripe sequels ever committed to film. So applying the "2nd Matrix" could work, but it don't make them watchable.

Oh and I'm with Ed, Le Mans all the way. Went to see it in 2011 and it was amazing. Being able to dip in and out and travel all over the circuit at your leisure is amazing. So yes it'll be on my TV a fair bit. quite how they drive so quick in the dark (none of this gazillion watt, daylight equivalent F1 rubbish), is a feat to behold.

not quite sure where the Ferris Bueller theory come from. I mean just because Cameron was ill in bed?! If we saws him answer Ferris' call while eating breakfast would the theory be there? No, don't talk stoopid, but hey, some people gotta be different and try to appear to be clever.

Anyway, good to have you back guys. Lol at Phil, "the plasma love is strong is this one". THEY DON'T MAKE THEM ANYMORE!!!

      Top work chaps, thank you.
I didn't expect Porsche to have Audi covered despite blitzing qualifying, but it's been a good outing thus far. It'd make a nice change to see someone other than Audi with in P1, and Toyota are struggling this year now that the cars run a slightly more legal rear wing :lesson:.

Ex Machina I thought was excellent (never saw it during the theatrical release). The disc certainly isn't demo quality, but it's not quite as bad as has been made out. The audio is excellent - overall it was a film that carried itself in a way that you can just watch it and enjoy it, without looking for niggles in the image.

Kingsman - superb. The only thing I disliked was Samuel L, he just seemed out of place to me. The lisp was a bit odd. On the plus side, Colin Firth being a boss was a surprise, and brilliant fun. The fight scene choreography was superb, and Jackman's score was excellent (he'd be a good choice for a Bond composer).

      Leading neatly onto... conspiracy theories:

As Steve mentioned, the Bond franchise reinvents itself, or at least has in the DC years - each other iteration was very much a continuation. Throughout the series, there have been nods to major events in Bond's life (2 mentions of Bond's widow status - in For Your Eyes Only, and again in License To Kill following Felix & Della's wedding).

Similar nods are taking place in the DC films, namely through the books rather than films which I think sits a bit better - it was always a difficult task to make Bond relevant in the current period. The link from Skyfall to SPECTRE is tenuous (wont give away spoilers), but quite clever in that it takes the character full circle and finishes the 'probation' period for Bond - I'd expect subsequent films to take up a more traditional Bond feel. Time will tell whether the audience wants that though.

I read somewhere that there's a theory surrounding Chris Pratt's character in Jurassic World, and that he in fact, is the grown up...
