Poor guys, they obviously couldn't afford a 4k DI

What a wasted opportunity for 4K DI.
I really want to get this on UHD but after the last few disappointments in the dynamic audio department im on the fence.

You'd thinking after spending a billion dollars making this and Avengers 4, they would have a few quid for a 4K DI and release this in IMAX ratio

All the digital effects are rendered in 2K, and since almost every shot is digitally altered in this film there would really be no point.

I'm very surprised to see this getting a nine after watching this disc last night. Yes it's a clean presentation, but the picture pales and I mean PALES in comparison to Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2, Passengers or The Revenant (which have a 4K DI) – it's considerably less detailed, colourful and lacks the same contrast punch. Plus, they haven't even brought over the variable aspect ratio from the IMAX cut and that really is a sin!

Likewise, the audio is perfectly serviceable, but lacks any wow factor whatsoever – monitoring what's coming out of where on a 15-channel system, I can tell you that 90% of the mix is coming from the main fronts and centre speaker, with a real lack of body in the bass particularly – the bass track only caused my tactile shakers to come to life two or three times in the whole movie. And that's not normal. The Atmos mixes of Black Panther and GOTG2 provide a significantly more enveloping and satisfying audio experience.

So I'm quite surprised to see it get 9/10, even though the film is admittedly a riot. In the world of UHD BD, this disc is average at best. The review as a whole consistently compares the disc to its 1080p Blu-ray version, where it should, in my opinion, be compared to other notable UHD discs. It's okay to give this a lower score than the BD, even if it does look and sound slightly better.

It's a different format with a different set of expectations.

We received our disc yesterday, and sat through all the bonus materials (other than the commentary) last night. TBH they were a real disappointment. This movie is the culmination of 18 blockbusters and a decade of buildup. There were more than 30 leading characters, and they were filming two movies back to back. The featurettes are pretty shallow puff pieces. It's difficult to believe there is absolute mountains of backstage footage, deleted scenes, production and development content and much more to provide an insight behind the scenes. Maybe we were spoiled by the detail of Rian Johnson's Last Jedi documentary, but this was rubbish :(

Reading the comments, I think I will stick to Blu Ray on this one.

Once upon a time Disney disc releases were often considered absolute reference in terms of audio. No need for excessive volume adjustments and no compression of dynamics. This all started in 2015 with "Avengers: Age Of Ultron". As far as I'm concerned Disney ain't getting my money until they give me what I pay for. Disney have become cocky and disrespectful to consumers. Boycott.

Just a warning, if you haven't seen the movie (or if you have, but want to re-live the surprises and plot twists properly) DO NOT WATCH THE FEATURETTES before watching the movie. The featurettes are packed with huge spoilers.

I picked up the 4K streaming version via Amazon. Surprised Rakuten didn't have it, nor Google (but Google is pretty poor at 4K support). I thought the HDR presentation was pretty nice on the whole with Amazon's streamed offering.

It's staggeringly poor for bonus material, it's all fluff and to top it off they didn't even include any trailers.

I am stunned... And frankly a little depressed... That this wasn't a reference disc. :(

Has anybody else experienced a 1 pixel wide bright green line down the left hand-side of the screen when watching the UHD disc of Infinity War? (the standard blu-ray doesn’t have this problem, but it lacks the Atmos soundtrack).

I’m using an Oppo 203, connected to a Panasonic 1080P Plasma TV. The video is down-sampled via the Oppo player. The Oppo has the latest production firmware from July.

I have 35 UHD Blu-ray discs and Infinity War is the only one to exhibit the green line.

      Regards,

      James.

I watched it last night and agree that the sound mix needed a bit of extra volume but I thought it was much better than Thor Ragnarok (which I watched the day before) and much closer to reference than I was expecting (if a bit front-heavy)

Picture was exceptional at times and a bit flat in others. When I'd watched this (3 times!) in IMAX, I was really impressed with how real Thanos looked but there were times (particularly in the first half of the movie) where he looked less convincing than I'd remembered and that can only be transfer related (I guess). Scenes on Wakanda were much better and at times it was like looking through a window, just a shame the whole film didn't look as good.

Movie is just as brilliant as I remember and like several have said, have no idea how they can make a sequel that's as good!!!

I thought the Atmos soundtrack was pretty damn awesome to be honest. My SB16 certainly shook the room plenty of times! As for the film, it was good but I can't see what everyone is fussing about. GOTG characters were great though!

I wouldn't wait for Amazon, it's in Sainsburys for £25 the same price as Amazon and you get it straight away, plus money off with Nectar points. :)

Wow. What a film. How I've managed to avoid any spoilers I have no idea, but I'm very glad I did.

The image was spectacular on my OLED, and the sound mix was better than the last few Marvel releases (I did crank it up a bit).

Excellent stuff. Can't wait until the next one and the inevitable ret-con.:D

Watched the UHD last night and it was also my first time seeing the film. It was fantastic and much better than I was expecting.

I did have Spiderman's death spoiled by someone posting a meme about it on Facebook but I'd avoided all other death spoilers so I was a little shocked by how it all played out.

Watched the first half. Not impressed by the picture quality on my 65C8 except for few outdoor scenes and some space sequences with bright highlights. It is on the softer side ooverall. Some scenes look 1080p. I doubt if the 3D disc will be any better.

Even the Matrix UHD puts this to shame.

I agree the picture was good but could be better for UHD as I did see stair stepping on some avenger graphic signs in the film, if it was true 4K that would be gone. HDR saved the day as that made the film pop and it was handled brilliantly on the highlights.

The sound was a mixed bag, to me Disney audio mixes lack bass weight and I do not mean on the sub channel, I mean in the overall mix its just as an airy feel, I like voices to have weight.

I did come across someone on another forum moaning about the audio and there is a petition to Disney to sort there mixes out, plus there was someone who worked for them said they use something called a multimedia mix now days, so the audio is good to go on mobile devices.

Yes, I have seen this on other discs too - can't recall which. Oppo are aware - you should email it in too - it came in the last FW.
I thought I had associated it with Dolby Vision titles - which doesn't apply here. My IW disc arrives today, so will check.....
I know there are a few bemoaning no DV - but 1080p (projector owners) are better off with it - no 60Hz forced conversion on top of HDR to SDR and 2020 to 709.

Well watched it in the cinema upon release and been waiting for the 4K impatiently.
Was lucky enough to pick up the 4K version on US itunes quite cheap.
Visually stunning and set new bar in the VFX department.
If you get the chance watch the 30 mins clip available in the release in how it was all put together, brilliant and interesting viewing...
Think I have watched it 6 times now which as P'd my son off who says *Dad, you're obsessed*
Sorry son, I can't help it.

      *I hope they remember you*
