Talked to Denon Germany today and got a bit more info regarding the upcoming upgrade for the AVC-A1SE.
They said that the final tests are taking place and that the upgrade package will get it´s world premiere at the winter CES in Las Vegas onboard the 5800 receiver(US version of A1) this month.
As for cost they couldn´t say exactly(affordable was used)
    So let´s wait and see

I have it on good authority that the upgrade will cost £600 sterling.

The upgrade will be available mid-late february for 2 months.

The new AVCA1SR will retail for £3200.

The upgrade will take 2 weeks to do.

It will, apparently, make it more or less identical to a new AVCA1SR.
THX Ultra 2 and Denon Link are another 2 of the upgrade features.
I actually think that £600 (inc carriage) is not too bad for what you get and the pice of the new model.
I guess it is better than selling your 1SE for £1400, then lashing out another £1500 for a 1SR.

does that mean the upgrade will only be available for 2 months? It's kind of a bad time to be lashing out that sort of money right now but I was planning to later in the year... mmmm

I was told it would only be available for 2 months, but they could be wrong.

If we´ve only got 2 months to get the upgrade done, my projector budget will go out the window!!

Mind you, as Edgeyboy said, better to pay 600 quid than flog the old amp for half price and fork out 1500 quid more on the new one!!

Seems a bit of deal when you look at it like that!!;)

Well the way I look at it is you pay £600 for Pro Logic II , DTS 96/24 and not a lot else really, are the other things really much use or benefit? If I look at considering what I want from the upgrade then £600 isn't cheap at all really!

I completely agree with Andy on this one. If I had bought a £2500 amplifier with the promise of software upgradeability, then the £600 asking price is taking the p***. Coupled with the fact that (according to Edgeyboy) you will be without your amplifier for 2 weeks makes this look like a shambles! Onkyo handled their upgrade much better, and for a lot less.

Denon are changing the entire Digital board as DTS 96/24 needs faster processor´s.

PL2 doesnt require this hence the Onkyo upgrade was a straightforward affair.

I suppose you could argue the fact that some people only want PL2 , personally I´d rather have more, but its down to personal preference in the end.
