There is an Arcam AV8 and P7 on sale in Ebay. Starting price will be 999 pounds and they are both being sold by the same person.

I already have this excellent Arcam FMJ combination so happy bidding!

Only reservation I have is the quote about the 2 year warranty running out. My FMJ DV29 came with a 5 year warranty, not 2 years. Thought all FMJ products have this 5 year guarantee?

The 5 year warranty is only applicable if the product has been registered with Arcam.

On top of that it is most likely that from an official point of view this warranty of 2 or 5 years is only valid with the origianl owner, although Arcam have in the past been quite flexible about transferance of warranty.

Ah, thanks for clearing that up with me Chris :smashin:

This actually reminded me last night when I put in my message that I had still not received my certificate from Arcam for my DV29. So I sent them a mail and they have got back to me this morning. I passed on my serial number and they are checking it ot for me, so hopefully I will get the full 5 year coverage :)

    Cheers

I still haven't got my certificate for my DV27A and I sent it off last year! i've emailed them twice since and both times they've said they'll look into it but I still haven't got it! Good luck with yours!

There is another Arcam FMJ AV8 processor on sale on Ebay. What are the chances of two AV8s going on sale within a space of about 2-3 weeks?

One day and about 22 hours left till end of bidding! This is an excellent bargain. Good luck Arcam fans.

I believe it is the same AV8, the guy who bought it last claims it is not a very good 2 channel pre-amp, hence he is selling it on.

I must say, I don't agree with him, the AV8 is an excellent pre-amp in 'stereo direct' mode. I would say that £1800 'buy it now' is an excellent price - a true bargain. I would buy it if I didn't own one!

    Regards,
    Ian

I prefer to listen to stereo music i.e. Cds via my AV8 with the subwoofer being used as well. My front left and right speakers are standmounters and I do not get enough bass in stereo direct mode. Am I getting the best sound out of my CDs by not using stereo direct mode?

I think the AV8 is good in 2 channel compared to other AV processors. Whether that is actually saying much is open to each individuals interpretation.....

The AV8 that went for sale again ended at 1650 pounds - nearly half the price of the AV8 new. A real bargain!

I would personally think that the AV8 is a good stereo preamp myself .. but only our own ears can really decide.

If your sub has a high level input (e.g. a REL) with the Neutrik Speakon connection as well as low level LFE input, you should be able to wire the 'high level' cable across the front left/right speaker terminals of your P7 so stereo Direct mode will still drive the sub through the high level input. This is how I have mine wired and I agree with you I prefer the Direct mode - 2 channel listening is far superior with the processing switched off. :smashin:

Ambo - I have connected my sub, the Rel Q150E MkII via the high level input a few months ago just like you have just said. Yes, it does sound better than 'stereo direct mode'.
