    Hi,

I wonder if anyone can cast a light on a problem I have:

I'm watching a 5.1 movie on DVD32R or on a BDP (same happens on both).

The auto detect light is on and all is well then the rears go quiet (Amp channel light stays on).

If I go into MENU on the AV32R and to Calibration the quiet speakers come to life when selected for adjustment.

When I select CALIBRATION COMPLETE (but I'm still in MENU) then the soundtrack reappears and will carry on and on.

But when I press the MENU BUTTON again ( to come out of the MENU back to the sources) the soundtrack continues for about 3 seconds before there's a swish of white noise and the channels disappear again.

I've gone through this with the L R and Centre switched off (different Amp) and I'm sure my description is accurate.

Anyone have any ideas as to the problem?

    Thanks for reading,

    Derek

I've done a little/lot more delving. I was wrong to say the rears go "on and on" when in Menu mode; they switch off after a few seconds.

    So the problem:

    All 4 surrounds calibrate ok.

All 4 surrounds switch off after a few seconds of "non calibration" use.

    ????

    Am I stuck with a 3.1 processor?

    Derek

What surround mode are you using when this problem occurs?
Does it occur with a different DVD/CD (is the flag the problem?)
What amp are you using? Is the AV32R turning off the amp modules?

Thanks Inotrope, all DVDs and the modules on the 100x5 switch off. Unit is currently with Kevin at the Audiocellar for a PSU strip and rebuild which hopefully will resolve the problem

Excellent - he did a super-quick job rebuilding the rectifier on mine; I've now send it off to IAG for a new VFD (display). Here's hoping it'll last another 10 years...

I can't pretend to understand what Kevin gets up to; I think it was the PSU but all I really know is that it works now!

The main power supply capacitor ratings were below what was expected - some had become leaky. Some parts had to be ordered in for the PSU so I guess the faulty ones were replaced or perhaps even a whole set. Kevin had not seen my fault before and wonders if he will see more ......

As ever exemplary service and I was very lucky - one Friday Kevin passed by Bristol so collected unit at Gordano Services and a week later we were both in Ambleside for a car park return!
