Can somebody say me if it's a good solution to upgrade my Av192-r with the TAG scaler or , buy a separate scaler as lumagen , or crystalio or cinematq for example??

    I've a Denon 2910 and a Tag dv32-r.
My plasma is a Panasonic 50Pv30 with no DVI.
My projector is Infocus screenplay 7200.

    Thanks for your answers.

It depends at which price they are willing to install the VSM.
The scalers you are talking about are somewhat more advanced technologically and let your to have plenty of functionalities for a price that is very attractive. Furthermore you can follow the evolution of the technology changing once the time arrived, the equipment and getting some residual money from the old stuff.

On the VSM side you surely spare a place in your cabinet and everything is really integrated into the AV192R. The problem I have is that I do not know anything about the future of the VSM, and I'm sure that if no evolutions are going to be performed once I'll want to evolve its residual value is zero.

Do you know at which price IAG is going to make the installation? I'll be interested in getting the information.

    Regards,

    Lenny

the PV30 wont accept 720p on component (you would need to use your front flap VGA for native or 720p) the 2910 will potentially cause you issues with connection to the Plasma. running dual dispalys from a scaler that are able to take advantage of the same sort of high level digital signal is a potenial nightmare. There are solutions like Mod the 2910 for SDi and use componet to Plasma and SDi to scaler for PJ only. I would suggest you try and find a local dealer who can offer both advice on TAG and Lumagen, DVDO scalers etc its the PV30 that will cripple your plans, replace it with a PV500 and you could be laughing PQ wise (or crying bank balance wise)

I don't know the price of this upgrade. I think so, I must modify my 2910 (SDI) and take a Lumagen to enter in the plasma with component?? or VGA perhaps is better???

well there is no reason not to connect it direct to plasma except you seem to want to improve PQ. Like i said best to talk to some one local or specialist to discuss the options. THis is a whole can of expensive worms if you get it wrong

The TAG scaler looks pretty 'dated' compared to the external devices you mention - most of which have on-going Firmware upgrades to cope with customer demands and technology changes in your source devices.

    You have two DVD players!!!

The TAG can be set to output Interlaced YUV your Denon can Output Interlaced YUV, Progressive RGB via DVI or can be modified (£350.00) to output a non encoded Digital SDI signal.

Using a processor with your PlasmaTV is definitely tricky - RGBHV via the HD15(VGA) socket is going to be your best option.

Using a processor with your Projector is relatively straightforward using a DVI cable with the Processor set to Output 1280x720P 50/60Hz.

I'd suggest a Processor with RGBHV + DVI Outputs (menu selectable) and the ability to set up multiple Output profiles depending on which Display device your viewing on.

Both DVD players can be used as a 'Video' Transport - I guess the quality of the Audio processing may be the deciding factor as to which one to build your system around.

    Best regards

    Joe
