Ok, I have recently upgraded to a Pioneer VSX-814 AV amp and a DV-575 DVD player, and my front speakers are, to be frank, cheap and nasty rubbish (Acoustic Solutions DS1000). They will be renegated to my workshop to provide marginaly better quality sound than cheap boombox I currently have in there as soon as I decide on replacements.

Floorstanders prefered, but stand mounts ok as long as stands+speakers fall into budget which is £200. Preferably new, but some quality s/h items would be ok. This will be used for probably 90% AV use, with the occaisional CD being played. Any suggestions welcome (apart from abusive ones).

    Mission m33 @ £180
    Tannoy Fusion 3 @ £200
    MS Avant 904 @ £250
    Mission m34 @ £260

I would have a look at those - maybe you can find a deal on the higher priced ones!

If none please you, and you manage to save some more, you might want to consider the higher priced Monitor Audio Bronze B4 @ £315. I know it's more expensive, but it's well worth the wait if you can save it up!

hmn - actually another really good combination is:

    MA Bronze B2 @ £177.00
Atacama Nexus Speaker Stands @ £61.99

The B2's are super - check out the review, or rather have a listen to they yourself!
Still over £200 but not too much & the result should be better than the similarly priced floorstanders i mentioned!

Wow, thanks for the response guys, got plenty of speakers to be checking out! I can probably squeeze a bit more out of the budget, as long as I hide the receipt from the SO :)

Stay tuned for further stupid questions!

    Done a bit of pricing:

AE EVO-1's for £119.99 at Hughes Direct
AE EVO-3's for £249.99 at Hughes Direct
Mission M33 for £139.99 at Empire Direct
Mission M34 for £194.99 at HiwayHiFi

Can't find any of the others cheaper. The EVO-1's are looking mightly attractive at that price. Forgot to mention, room is roughly 16ft x 10ft. Would the EVO-3s be overkill for the room?

any of the speakers mentioned here will be fine in that size room.

My Mordaunt-Short 906s are weighty speakers, but they work fine in my bedroom, which is only about 4m square.

Second vote for MS906s, they sound lovely in my lounge! Also about 4m*4m, it just depends on what else is in the room.

My lounge is bloody full now, floorstanders, 51" TV, two sofas, a fish tank and now a christmas tree! That's pushing the space a bit :)
