What's the reason for having those extra av inputs on the front of receivers when there are so many tucked away at the back? Why would you want cables trailing across the front of your amp?

I suspect that the idea is that you can plug a video camera in easily, without having to struggle to get round the back of the amp.

The same reason as they're put on the front of TV's and VCR's. Bear in mind that part of the idea of an AV amp is that it routes all the signals to your TV or VCR. It's also good for connecting things like camcorders as mentioned, plus your iPod or whatever. I don't use mine often but when I do then I'm happy that the inputs are at the front rather than having to get around the back! :)
