I was interested by a post I read about leaving equipment on standby and was wondering what most people do. All my kit runs through power surge units and is left on standby permanently, untill it is used of course. I was always of the oppinion that turning equipment on and off from cold, so to speak, shortens its life? My Sanyo PLV-30 is always left on standby when not in use. At first I was a little concerned because the projector is permanently warm to the touch.

When my Epson projector is in standby the fan remains running at a slow speed. When powered up properly the fan steps up to full speed. Is this normal for a projector fan to be constantly ticking-over on standby ?
