AV amp and speakers for 650?

I am going to get an AV amp and speakers some time next week and would love some recommendations.
I only have about 650 to spend on the lot. I will be using it for movies most of the time but intend to get a CD player in the near future.

I have been looking at Marantz and Yamaha. But am always open to new ideas as I'm fairly new to all this.
