    Hey,

My brother gave me a pile of songs in mp3 format, but unfortunately the metadata on them is rubbish - the title of all the songs is currently in the format:

001 - Marc Cohn - Walking In Memphis

I need a tool that will let me automatically delete the number and then move the name, e.g. Marc Cohn, into the artist metadata field.

Anyone know if such a tool to clean up metadata like this exists?

    Many thanks in advance,

    Edward

Google for a free Java app called Jtagger. Allows batch editing a folder at a time.

Tag&Rename can do the job as well.
It's not free but you can download a fully functional 30 day trial version.

I use Foobar2000 and MP3tag for this, both free :)

Or Media Monkey has quite a good automatic metadata tool.

I tried Jtagger but it didn't seem to have the option to change the artist name using the filename.

MP3Tag did have that function however, so all updated successfully.

Thank you all for your suggestions.
