Does anyone know how the "Auto" widescreen setting function works on a Hitachi 42PD5300 ? I have one of these connected via s-video to a Sky+ box (via a Yamaha RXV-640RDS amp, hence the s-video), and the Auto widesreen setting does not work. However, if I watch terrestrial BBC, ITV, C4 and CH5 with the Auto function on, it switches. I think I know the answer, but can anyone else comment ?

The Hitachi probably only responds to a widescreen signal sent via a scart pin and so will not work via s-video. Most devices now only seem to support this method. The far more useful method of sending the signal via one of the picture scan lines seems to be ignored now.
