    Hi,

Just spoken to the only local shop I can find that will actually audition, they have quite a narrow choice, as I want 2.0 bookshelf.

They have told me I can try mission 790 (£350), B&W 685 (no price) or Kef IQ3 (£200), are these speakers any good, anyone tell me anything about them?

Also, they usually demo on a LX81 or yammy 3900 amp. But this is too high end for me. They said they could connect up a yammy 763, wich is fine, but will this amp drive these speakers ok, and show them in their full potential?

    cheers

A 763 is a far better representation of what you would likely use with those speakers.... it'll drive them fine - obviously they're likely to sound better off one of the other amps, but you're not going to have one, so don't do it!

I'd see if you could look at the new Kef C Series too.... but they're all speakers worth a listen, but for that sum of money i'd want to be hearing Focal 700 series...

    thanks,

you definately seem to liek the focal 700, I suppose I will just have to go check them out. Do you know anywhere in the Milton keynes or Northampton area that will demo?

the shop I am going to is quite specialist and has full range of Kef, PMC, B and W and mission, but no other makes.

I'm sure I heard the IQ3 on Saturday while I was waiting for my own demo to start - a guy was having a demo within the actual shop itself and the IQ3 was one set of the speakers he heard.

I was impressed - obviously they didn't have a great deal of weight behind them but lovely clarity.

I recently upgraded my speakers. Just to back up Scott_Mac, I ended up narrowing my selection down to Quad 12L2's or Focal 706V's.....the Focals won. More bass, a much fuller sound, very nice, well worth a listen if there is any way you can, I'm very pleased with mine.
