I am currently looking for speakers in the £1000 bracket (stereo use only). B&W 705s and ATC SCM 12s are on my list at present what else should i be considering a listen with.

    TIA
    Barry

Triangle Antal- a magic loudspeaker that regularly wins blind listening tests- mainly becaue its no looker. Fabulous and (whilst our own Performance range is still unavailable) where my £1k would go.

Linn Ninka's are worth a listen imo have good upgrade options too (bi-wire, bi-amp, tri-amp and fully active with the addition of crossover cards/tune box). Make sure you listen to them with the base upgrades fitted though as they turn them into a completely better animal:)

What's the main requirement? Bass depth, volume, or sound quality? These will always be a compromise unless you have a large budget!

The usual suspects including stuff from Pro-Ac, PMC, Spendor, Totem, Dynaudio and even Ruark are worth putting on the short list for audition. The list could get quite long but £1,000 on a pair of speakers is quite a lot so you want to get it right.

I'm a fan of the little known Leema Acoustics brand that I have heard a couple of times at the Bristol Show and they are well worth an audition if you can find them

Main requirement is sound quality, not looking for big spl or earth shaking bass - also the waf comes into play  but if they're good enough i'm sure i could make her see sense ;)

    Hi,

I would suggest that you take a listen to the PMC GB1's if you can. Not that the Bristol Show is necessarily the best place for judging speakers but in that price range they were one of my favourites there.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

What about the ATC SCM 7 + a £500 sub? I know the 7 and think they are brilliant little speakers. And as most people would admit you really do need an active sub to underpin, it's worth a thought.
