Hi everyone,
Just need to confirm if the pre-out section on my 8300A is working as I think it should or am I in the wrong and misunderstood the manual.
I wanted to dual purpose my main speakers for Hi-Fi and AV.
So connected using the L & R pre-outs on my Marantz AVR, connected to the HT-bypass (Power In) on the 8300A and then the pre-outs into 8300MB power-amps.
I copied the Pre-Power diagram in the manual so thought it would work but I’m getting nothing to the mains in Pre-Power mode.

See pics for wiring and manual diagram

Tested:
Marantz direct to the 8300MB’s - worked perfectly.
TT connected to 8300A phono in, Integrated mode selected, and pre-out to the 8300MB’s - L speaker appeared to drop in and out.

Any advice or experience with a similar set up would be really appreciated. Thanks!

The 8300a precut is before the power in, I don't think you can do it that way.

Try Marantz and 8300a pre out directly to 8300mb either with y splitter or switch, maybe rca to xlr cable or switch cables.

Just a thought but have you tried the Marantz going into one of the regular inputs on the Audiolab rather than the power in? I couldn't see anything in the manual talking about use for HT bypass though so not sure what's going to happen with volume control.

As said the pre-power mode disconnects the 2 stages of the amp - so any signal to the power-inputs can not route to the pre-outs.

Really it’s a processor loop mode, so that in pre-power mode you can select an input, use the volume, and have it out put via the preout’s for connection in to a processor/eq and then back in to the power-ins.
However it does provide technically a fixed gain HT bypass when going into the power-in’s from an AVR, but that only works if you use the onboard amps of course.

If you want to use the AVR to the 8300A, and use it’s pre-outs to drive MB’s, you should stick it in pre mode and take the AVR pre-outs in to an AUX input on the 8300A, and simply manually turn the volume up to 0dB (unity gain).

I went from doing HT bypass in pre-power mode to then having to do as above when I added my XP. Like you I thought something was wrong, but alas it‘s working as designed.

(also the manual is a joke to say the least. The 6000A play manual explains it marginally better, which functions the same way albeit only a single pre out pair not dual).

Makes absolute sense to what I’ve encountered.
I’ll give it a go in the morning and quite certain that will be question answered and case closed.
Really appreciate the response.
It’s been driving me mad!!!

Thanks, man!
You and TB Rich both suggest the same work around and it makes perfect sense!

Thanks for the reply.
Makes sense.
I’ll try the above workarounds but failing that I’ll get a splitter

Worked a treat.
Thank you!! :)

Worked a treat. Volume control works with the Marantz, too!
Thank you! :)
