I must be going mad, but are you suggesting that these headphones actually handle D/A conversion and amplification in the voice coils???? Surely producing an analogue waveform output from the drivers would involve massive processing to convert from a 2 state binary system, to a form of digital signal with thousands of state values and massively greater sampling rates wouldn't it?

^^ the mass of the voice-coil acts to integrate - ie, smooth - a PWM output. This is old-hat theoretically, but rarely implemented in practice. The result in an accurate analogue variation in air pressure - aka sound :)

I gotta say I like the 'sound' of these, and whilst £500 is expensive they should sound excellent both as well-made Audio-Technica products and because of their digital audio function. Wishlist++
