Is it possible to record audio only from DVD or CD to the HD of the Sony RHR HX510. It would be very convenient to be able to use some of the HD space to store mp3s, especially with the newer machines with larger HDs coming on stream.

Unfortunately, it is not possible. New Pioneers have feature called Juke Box. You can copy your CD music as MP3, but only at real speed!

So could there be some sort of hack that would allow access to the HD so that mp3s could be directly copied to it from a computer?

Are you sure that Pio convert audio tracks ( CD music ) to mp3 file to HDD ?
If so than why it can NOT copy mp3 files ( from recorded CD-R/RW ) to HDD as it is with CD music ?

BTW. The Juke Box's feature helped me to make a decision of choosing Pio 530 among many others DVRs.

I know that from Pioneer's manual. That's all.

Than you have your " private " manual. There no sign in mine one about it.
