I have a Pentium 4 2.5GHz computer with Windows XP and on board sound system (no sound card) 2GB RAM (maximum). Most of the time the sound coming out of my speakers is good quality, however, if I rip a CD while listening to music off my library the playback slows down considerably, RAM usage seems low enough. Also, I have an old Command & Conquer game that I've kept all these years (first addition), after installing this game on my new system the sound is terrible. It's like the sound went through the blender (for lack of a better explanation), like a delay or I'm pressing the mute button 100 times per second. My newer games and programs sound just fine.

I hope my explanation makes some sense because I could use some advise as to how to correct this. Thanx.

Is your CD drive running in DMA mode or PIO mode?
