I'm having problems playing Audio CD's on my PC CD-R/RW drive.
When the music plays it skips and clicks.
Does this happen simply because the drive is a CD recorder or does the problem lie in the settings. When playing mpeg movies on the drive I get skipping as well.
I have a quite good PC with 512ram so that should be no problem.
    Could anyone help??

It may be that you haven't got DMA enabled on the drive ?
This link shows how to set DMA mode in Windows XP.

I tried what you suggested John, alas no desired result.

It's worth checking that you have the latest drivers for your sound card
