I've plugged the audio output into my amp as I wanted to use the Dolby Prologic System from my Hifi rather than the virtual from the TV speakers. I set the TV speakers to off as described in the manual, but every time I put the TV into standby of turn off, the option is then reset back to default. Sony says that this is a "Feature"!! I see it as a bug with the software. Has anyone else come across this problem?

I'm not 100% sure, but I think that there is a button on the back of the TV near the speaker outputs. This can be used to turn the speakers off.

Can't see anything. Nothing in the manual either. I'm sure it's a bug as the manual states :-

"Highlight 'Reset' and press OK only if you wish to return the sound settings to their factory preset levels."

I am pretty sure that my father has the same TV, and there was a small round button on the back right next to the speaker outputs.

I will have a look when i next pay him a visit.

    Hi.

I have an FX66 TV and its the same.

You turn the TV speakers off in the menu so you can use your AMP for sound and then when you put the Tv in standby or power on/off it resets and the Tv speakers are kicked back in.

Its not to much of a pain for me as i have my DVD player and Digi box connected to my Amp, but for someone that does not it would be a pain!!!

    Cheers

    Dal

    Shadow mask???

The picture quality from FreeView i've found is better than Sky..... I do get the odd pixelation issues described here on this forum - but not very often. Overall I'm very impressed with it - apart from the TV speaker issue - email from Sony :-

    Dear Mr Wyerd

Thank you for your recent enquiry.

I am afraid that speakers will default back to the original settings
after the KD-32DX40 Television has been switched off. I would like to
add that we cannot suggestion any modifications to our products to
disable this feature. I am sorry if my reply causes some disappointment.

Finally, if you need to reply to this e-mail, please quote reference

Dissapointment is an understatement! I think that they should get their designers to listen to the customer.

If you're thinking of buying one try www.unbeatable.co.uk I got mine for £888 inc P&P with a DVP-NS305 which I sold for £100 as I already had a player.

Same on this see; damned infuriating, but at least you got a reply from SONY; they've ignored my query completely, although I only used the email query on their web site; these never seem to elicit a response.

Good set ruined by this stupid feature. Why oh why don't the reviewers pick up these 'living with the set' issues rather than focussing 100% on the (agreeably very important!) picture/sound issue.

Probably the same reason they never seem to mention the problems watching sky digital on a 100Hz set...Still, as long as youre over 10' away, you'll hardly notice..!

The answer to the internal speakers turning themselves back on when the set is switched on is:-

Forget the speakers on off setting.
    Run volume to minimum
Output audio from scart 3 with a scart - 2xphono lead
On the fx66 set AV output to auto(in features menu)
This will give audio output of whatever is on screen.

    Seasons greetings all.

Hadn't noticed this thread before, so apologies for the tardy response!

Have a look at the the 'Sony speakers off?' thread (use the search button) - this has been covered.

Bugged the hell out of me until I bought the Maplin catalogie. Never did make my own lead...

    Good telly!

    Super7,

I've tried searching for that thread, can't seem to find it.

I've just added a HTSL5A (£270 from argos, pretty good for them!) to my 32DX40, and I've hit the 'speaker off' problem.

How did you solve it ! Please help!

    Have a look here.

I'm pretty sure Maplin still sell the cable. Not had a problem with mine.

    Thanks Super7,

Thought that was how you'd probably done it.

I had a look at Maplins and picked up a Scart through adaptor with phone in/out (gold plated as well  ) WN53H for £6.49 , half price at the moment, which does the job nicely!!

    Thanks for your help,

    Cakeboy
